I am thinking of upgrading from Elements 11 to Elements 13 and am wondering if there is anything I have to do regarding the Organizer, i.e., when I upgrade will all my current Keyword Tags be automatically transferred to the Elements 13 Organizer or are there certain actions that I have to take?

Also do the Elements Organizers have any limit on the number of images they can hold as I have been having many problems with my Elements 11 Organizer and thought the very large number of images I have in it might be the cause of the problem?

Can't help you directly with 11 to 13, but I know when I've updated previously to a newer version, I've not had any problems and not had to do anything special...

This might be a good time to think about moving over to LightRoom. It's cataloging facilities are better than PSE and there is a menu option to import a PSE catalog. If you shoot in raw you'll also find that LR gives you a lot more than PSE.

Download the trial version and give it a go, I did but decided to stay with 11, not much of an upgrade so I saved my money, it's not something I use much anyway, I mostly use DPP for editing and I keep my own folder system for organizing.

Neil is talking about using keywords for organising images. Once you've started using keywording properly then using a simple folder system is just totally inadequate.

For example - I know that sometime in July or August in 1997 to 2001 I took a photo of my Auntie Gladys posing with a stuffed gorilla. Using LightRoom's keyword and metadata searching it would take less than a minute to find it.

Fair enough, but my suggestion to download the trial version still stands, nothing to lose.

Thanks Hollis and Crofter for the replies, much appreciated.

I did go ahead to try and upgrade but I'm in Thailand at the moment and I'm registered with Adobe in the UK so I would have had to set up another account to do it. So decided to wait until I'm back in the UK, mid January. But now I've just seen your replies.

Hollis, I don't normally shoot in raw and don't really do much post processing, mainly cropping and a bit of cloning, although I should do more. Is Lightroom still a worthwhile alternative to Elements?

I've had a quick look for Lightroom but notice that it is also produced by Adobe. Is it a product between PSE and full PS? Why would I want to move from PSE to Lightroom?

LR gives more control over editting. I guess PSE11 and LR5 - both have pluses and minuses so i wouldn't dump one for t'other

I've been looking at going from 9 to 13 with a particular interest in 16bit tif.

PSE 13 will open 16bit tif's but some of the most used functions aren't supported, i.e. greyed out. You must convert to 8bit to use them.

IMVHO it's not worth changing.

I've decided to stick with 9 and Olympus Viewer 3, as I have Oly gear.

A 30 day trail of 13 is available to download, I've tried it.
