Hi

Having sold my Canon gear and just getting to grips with my Panasonic G3 I am after some software. I used to use the Caon DPP for the Raw - Jpeg and Element 6 for the dust bunnies, sharpening etc.

I don't really want to spend over £100 if I can help it. So which is the best overall for Raw and the other usual processing. My computer isn't the fastest either.

Thanks

Tried LR4 .... Waaaaaay too slow, waiting for the updates. Still using LR3 which rocks IMO ....

Cheers

You have to wait for it to generate all its previews , with my library took about 30 minutes of use. Then it speeds up a lot. Mine runs very quickly now (or would if my machine wasn't so unstable and didn't freeze up every 15 minutes on any program).
The 4.1 release candidate is already available, there should be a final release pretty soon!

If all you used elements for was cloning out dust bunnies and sharpening, Lightroom is more than capable of that and for more detailed editing Elements 6 could still be used.

However, as with all of these "what software shall I use" threads, there are free trials available, download them and see what works for you.

Get the free trials as Lewis suggested. Adobe give you 30 days to evaluate them.

I've always used Photoshop - an old version of CS2 and Elements 8 which came with a new laptop - and couldn't get too excited about Lightroom in the past. Tried LR4 in beta and spent a bit of time actually learning how to use it, instead of just playing around with it, and found that it works very well for me. I'm probably going to buy LR now, but I'll keep Photoshop/Elements for the times when I need/want it.

thanks will have a play with the trials
