After my thread a few months ago about dodgy electrics by a registered electrician my electrics went with a bang today. The plug sparked and flamed (this was when we didn't realise there was a problem and just flicked the switch back thinking it was nothing) & luckily didn't damage my computer which was plugged in the socket when it first blew.

I am now looking to get a new electrician but don't know of any in my area (Boston, Lincolnshire).

Is there any sites where you can find recommended, high quality workmen?

In theory you should be able to get one via HERE

Yellow pages.

Yellow pages.

I think the OP is trying to keep away from playing the lottery, which is effectively what your doing when you pluck a name out of the yellow pages.

Do you have any friends/workmates who have lived in the area for a long time, they tend to know someone. a recommendation is worth so much.

I've yet to find a decent "recommend a tradesman" website on the internet

Which local list recommended local tradesmen. As it's a members only service I've had a look for some in your local area. Will PM you a few names etc.

Hi Carl,
I am in Spalding, and regularly use a local company, I will PM you his details.

we use a site called 'myhammer' pretty good, and can give them a rating to how the job was, all in all very good :)

Thanks everyone for your help. I got the guys who did the work back via means of a less than polite phone call, as I can't afford/didn't want to pay for someone else's cockup.

It turns out the earth wire got jammed as they put the cover on the plug and over the months of using the plug it rubbed through the sheathing and eventually got to bare wire and caused the problem (or words to that affect).

To be fair they were very apologetic and came straight away this morning. They said it was an unfortunate accident that would not have been picked up when they tested the work as the sheath was in tact and everything was fine.

To be fair they knew what it was straight away, and did it efficiently and quickly, so i have had a little faith restored in them.

Pleased your all sorted - and hopefully safe again

Simon.

Just make sure anyone you use is NICEIC registered, if you don't know them as a referral.
