Elderly Drivers

:)

I just got the biggest 4x4 I could get and barge through it all. Simples :)

Could have done with one....... I was in a 10 year old Ford Focus estate running 225/40/18 tyres, certainly made the ride "interesting"

Men won't admit that ladies are better drivers, they'll argue the toss for years.

Both sides argue the toss because there is, in fact, no right answer.

I see there is a lot of p**** taking, water off a ducks back gentlemen. I don't think we need to open a thread who are the best drivers, goes without saying, us girls of course.:agree: how I wish that I could be a mod for a minute and lock the thread then no could argue, Hello lady mod's are you up yet, my thread, could you lock it to save me from all these men above who think different.:ty:

Shirley, I certainly wasn't "p**** taking".

You've started a thread stating that all old drivers should be banned.

You've then admitted that you've never driven on a motorway as they're too scary

You've then stated that as you only drive on country roads and that "you need great skill for this type of driving" which is correct however in mine and others' opinions doesn't stand for much as it's only one aspect of being a "good" driver

Whilst 'some' elderly drivers are a risk to themselves and other road users I think that in general, driving standards are s***!

We should ALL be retested on a regular basis.

I can image. My Golf is on those and sometimes the crashing of the wheels is making cry :) The 4x4 is on air suspension so at least I don't feel it when I drive over something:)

Fully agree for my own safety and others. I am quite happy with that. Even if I have to drive for 4-5 hours every 5 years :p

I don't have a problem with elderly drives, i blame the silly speeds on our roads for making driving in the UK stressfull.
I spend a lot of time in Greece and apart from the odd muppet most people drive very relaxed and under the allready slow speed limits.

UK roads and drivers are awfull.

I was kidding, friendly pi** taking

I had a Subaru Legacy once and whilst overtaking a very slow driver, the driver accelerated, so I thought little bast*** two can play at that game and put my foot hard on the accelerator and no kidding my car went off like a exocet missile. After I'd passed him and slowed down I said to my Dad wow what did you think of that, the answer 'not much'. He'd bought me that car as it has optional 4 wheel drive to pull my sheep trailor out of the fields. The Legacy was sheer power, it was in kilometers so I had little idea how fast I was going. Sold after 22years and I got £1000 for it.

My old Mondeo ST TDCi, sports suspension and lowered on eibach springs wasn't crashy on it's 225 40 18's and never felt anything through the Recaro seats. Focus is on 235 40 18's still not crashy and can't feel anything through the Recaro seats.

I will be 83 next month and have been driving since I was 21. I have driven all over Europe, ( even with a caravan on the back) I have driven various vehicles when I was doing my National Service which included a lot of driving in Paris, we used to say the British Army Landcover was the only vehicle the French taxi drivers were afraid of, drive straight at them and they moved sharpish, I have driven rally cars and now drive a BMW. I find the worst drivers in this area are the young lady drivers, they go hell for leather, never stop at stop signs or give way signs. I consider myself to be a safe competent driver and would willing take a driving test.

..................., so I thought little bast*** two can play at that game and put my foot hard on the accelerator .

And that kind of behaviour whilst driving make you as dangerous as any 90 year old driver.

On the whole there is nothing wrong with UK roads or the drivers, it's just a few that spoils it for everyone else. The stress is usually caused by sheepish drivers driving way too slow for the road they are on.

I see far less elderly drivers using phones whilst driving, big plus point for that.

Worst culprits seem to be young women judging by the traffic creeping along my road every weekday morning

I find the type of road determines who the mobile phone culprits are. Urban and town centre roads it is predominantly women. Dual carriageways and motorways it will generally be men mid 30's to mid/late 40's.

Many drivers are just totally oblivious to not just the immediate cars around them but also other road users they are likely to have to encounter within the next 10-30 seconds, sometimes even longer.

I'd agree with that.

Not even when you hit a pothole? That is very good.

Be careful, I might just be coming the other way in my Izusu 4x4 crew cab with the same attitude :D
Hello lady mod's are you up yet, my thread, could you lock it to save me from all these men above who think different.:ty:
One of my favourite mod tools, is being able to ban argumentative people from posting in any given thread :p

Lock the thread? Where's the fun in that? :)
See my idea above, much better :D

I always give way to farmers :p

I feel the same way about a lot of drivers under 20, and anyone between the ages of birth to 120 driving a BMW.
Hold on a minute this post is totally out of order
You forgot the Audi,Volvo and Merc drivers

The scourge of motorcyclists and smaller cars as the drivers believe the sips makes them invulnerable when puling out.
I can assure you they are little use against a fully loaded artic. ;)

I think I posted the Volvo post by mistake, I pressed the wrong thingy on my laptop, I don't know how that happened, I'm watching the bake off at the same time.

Decent suspension and decent seats. (y)
Shame Ford don't have any plans for a 2.7 V6 Ecoboost version of the Mondeo like they have with their American Fusion Sport. But hopefully the suspension will be available.

That v6 ecoboost motor shuvvs out 300 bhp in the ford transit in the USA...

Radical are using it in the new GT car too 600 plus bhp, Guy Martin used it in a Transit to do the USA speed challenge on his latest speed series....Nice bit of kit! I doubt it will come here though

Why not. Mercedes is selling it's V6 Petrol twin turbo like hot cakes at the moment. Ford should do it for a fair bit less money.

I'm still tempted by the Mustang 5.0.

Mmmmm that Mustang 5.0 so undecided on it, seen a couple on the road, in fact too many! and thats the problem.

Common as a common thing around the Thetford area, but then there are American bases in that area too.
I have to admit they are nice, though.
One I saw recently had the the reg MPG 003.
:D

Says it all. :-)

Indeed, just a bit of spirited driving sees the mpg plumit, you can get FAR more performance and economy from a lighter car, engine noise on them is tame! Mates C63AMG is cracking in the noise dept naturally aspirated v8....sweet.
