Efficient workflow management

Portrait workflow question ... I'm looking to stream line my workflow and wondered if people could review my approach and suggest improvements / tutorials:

1. Import dng into LR (possibly purchase PohotMech?) for culling and first edits
2. Export psd for batch action (light edits)
3. Save psd and as jpeg for quick viewing

Questions -
1. could I export as jpeg for batch action or does manipulating the jpeg corrode it?
2. is there a better way of exporting a psd to my desktop and then manually moving to my external, to be imported into LR. I find the batch action won't save unless the psd is on my hard drive.

I feel like I'm missing a more fluid method of managing the files. Many thanks for your input, Mandy

Technically I suppose exporting a JPEG will compromise the image somewhat. But depending on what you are doing with it after it may be insignificant. The lower the JPEG compression you apply the better. I've found that there is very little loss with a JPEG saved at Max quality

Have you tried exporting the image into Photoshop direct from Lightroom itself. (cmd/ctrl+E) then applying the batch command .Saving will then save the edited PSD or whatever format you choose back to the original folder .This places the edit next to the original file with the tag "Edit" appended to the file name.

Great idea - I've got it to export a PSD and automatically open in PS. I'll give your idea a go at home and report back!

Also, depending upon the edits you are applying you can keep a lot of your workflow within LR (not sure which edition you are using) but all bar the more intense PP needs can be dealt with in LR as batch processing, saving you quite some time and effort

This worked a treat - thanks for spelling out the obvious to me - I knew I was over complicating the process! Mandy
