IQ should be good & weight shouldn't be too heavy, but in all honesty on the 1.6x crop a 50-500 OS is probably a better idea. No heavier. No worse optically. Not really much slower. Longer reach.
If on full frame though a 35-350 would be cool.

I had one for a few years and it served me well. The IQ doesn't hold up against a more dedicated lens but the range of focal length means that you've always got the right option for a shot. Modern sensors have such a high pixel density that this lens can't really provide the resolution to take full advantage but it's not any worse than using it on a 5-8 Mp body.
Designed for pap's and reportage usage and that's where it strengths lie.
And yes, it's heavy....and pretty much indestructable into the bargain.

I have recently aquired one, and yes it is bloody heavy
Especially on a 1D MKii!
But so far so good. I haven't used it much so far, but first impressions are good.
As mentioned, at 350mm it's probably not going to be as good as a 300mm 0r 400mm prime, but then I have found it pretty good considering.
At work at the mo, but if you wait until this evening I'll pop a few samples up.
