Gosh this is like walking into a room full of people you don't know!

I'm Emma from Lancashire, and somewhere along the line late in 2010 i have started to move from photography as a hobby to setting up a website and facebook page and trying to make some money out of it. It's slow going, mainly because i don't have a clue what i'm doing on the web side of things. Have had a couple of customers though who have been happy which is reassuring. Kind of.

I mainly do equestrian photography, and mainly portraiture (on the business side), since it seems the most popular type for individual shoots. Not sure if anyone else in here does that sort of thing? I do try different types with my own horse, and am planning on getting into equestrian event photography more this year. Oh, and i do photography for an estate agent including 360 degree shots. It's not that exciting though!

Is that the sort of introduction i'm supposed to give? Am i doing anything wrong? Please let me know if i do, i'm as lost here as i am in the photography business lol!

Oh, most of you say what equipment you use. Until recently i just had my basic olympus e410 and kit lenses. Now i have my hands on a Canon 500d and my next purchase is going to be a nice fast 70-200mm for it. not very exciting at all. I love the 500d after my slow olympus though :D

Hi Emma, I only joined in the early hours of this morning, so don't know anyone either! I am also an equestrian photographer which helps to finance our horses! The 70-200 is a great lens for the job.

welcome along from another newbie, good luck with the new venture .

Horses and cameras-2 very expensive hobbies !

Ohhh cool lots of hello's!

Thanks for the welcome everyone, seems to be a massive community on here, looking forwards to popping in and joining in a bit more when i get chance.

Teegee, nice to see another equine photographer on here! Thought i was on my own for a bit there. I'm no where near up to financing a horse through mine yet though, would be pleased if i could finance any of the long list of equipment i have my eye on lol.

:)

Hi Emma,

welcome to TP and I hope that you enjoy it and learn as you go. I had a look at you Web site - a very good start and nothing like jumping in at the deep end. Presumably the next step will be to mailshot all the Equestrian outlets and contact riding schools to arrange to shoot their customers

Horses are superb animals to photograph and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Good luck with 2011

Malcolm

Hi Emma

You will get lots of help on here  have a look at the tutorials good place to start ;)

Thanks Malcolm and James :) Have been busy confusing people in the business section, but am gradually snooping my way around the rest too. Think i will be hitting the editing section when i have time, i need to make better use of my CS4.

Malcolm Yes i plan to print off some ads to put up at riding schools and livery yards, i really need to give myself a kick up the backside and go and be brave and pester people! I have periods of confidence issues though which holds me back from getting out there sometimes. New years resolution is to get out there and just do it though.

Welcome to TP
