Ok, so, took my camera for its first outing today, taken a few shots, nothing special and im realy worried and a bit embaressed by them, they are pretty naff. I will download them in a bit, some animal ones (of my insane dog) and some landscape ones of my island. I only have one lens that comes with my canon 400d, its a 18-55mm but after today im eager to improve my style etc so am keen to get my hands on more stuff . . . . . . .

hehe you can only get better through practise and in most cases trail and error :) I am sure they arent that bad! :) Look forward to seeing them if you post them :)

Don't worry about the quality. I used to but now I just pic the best ones and post them up in here. People will give you comments on them and normally always give you advice on what 'they' would do. The advice given to me has helped me hugely and I've only had two proper outings. Best of luck.

I remember my first trip with a DSLR, (the wife bought it for me on the Saturday at 5pm and I flew to South Africa for work at 2pm on the Sunday) I was disapointed with the results (my lack of skill) but all the advise I have now had has helped considerably.

I would also suggest that you spend some time with the Kit lens before adding lenes or you may find that you spend more than required by buying the wrong one's for what you want to shoot.:)

Its all a mater of time and practice.
Everyone can learn to take better shots.

Show us your best and we'll do our best to help out

Don't worry about it, I remember my first shots and they were really pants.
The advise on this site is great and will help you loads.

At least with digital you get instant feedback and can maybe try the shot another way! Muuuuch better than using film and having to wait for it to be developed only to find you missed a great shot!

As some of the others have already said, there's bags of knowledge on here and I've learnt loads in the few weeks I've been lurking around!

I'm kind of in the same boat, i took my first pics on saturday with my first D-SLR. Some were pretty bad, but i am aware it's a steep learning curve. I too will post some of my better ones when i finally sort out my virused compooter :help:

Get yours up
