I am slowly learning a few things, but I learned today that edited junk is still going to be junk lol, I am using photos on windows to resize images first, then I have got Adobe photoshop express a free editing program, I am just playing around with different things within the program to see what effect the have on images, like changing exposure instead of adjusting brightness for example, just need to learn limits of my camera and limits of editing jpeg.

Maybe shoot raw with your camera, gives you much more of a chance to adjust brightness and exposure.

As so often, there are no rules, it's just a case of doing what you think looks good. Sometimes an overdone effort will actually look fairly good and even, possibly, make something out of an out of focus blurry shot like this one.
Here are the before and after - not to many peoples taste maybe, I had been experimenting with panning, was about to bin this shot but edited it looks OK, and hey, the rider likes it!
One mans junk is another persons memory of what a great rider he is!

Richard, I can only shoot jpeg with this camera, maybe if I decide to get another one, it will shoot RAW.
Steve they may not be to everyones taste, but the definately have something about them, and I for one like them.
 
Most editing programs offer a 30 day (or similar) free trial if you want to see what is out there.
I use ACDSee, always have, found it easy to learn and way more that I'll ever grow out of.
Don't get too hung up on gear, learn how to use what you've got and enjoy whatever you do with your images.
It can be quite a fun thing this photography thing!

Personally I'd process then resize., and save the original unprocessed file so it can be returned to when you have more experience/improved software.

Thanks Steve, will have a look around, I am enjoying this camera for now, not sure what to do with the pictures I take lol, they are just sat on my PC, I enjoy taking them and the editing side, it is fun and the time flies by lol.

Don't get too hung up on praying to the God of RAW.
I never shoot RAW.
Although, I can open Jpegs in ACR ( adobe camera raw) if I totally screw things up that I want to keep.
But once its dead it's dead and not even ACR will bring it back to life.
So it goes in the bin.

A general guide my be to do everything you want, then back the changes off a bit. It's easy to lose sight of what makes a photo look nice and normal once the sliders start sliding.

A lot of people hate the processing/editing side but I'm never happier than when I'm sat with my tablet in a café with a couple of hundred shots to go through.

It's as much of a skill as the photography itself and I absolutely love working to get better at it.
 
Looks like the church of the cosmos. That or I am on acid lol. Excellent picture either way.
 
Be wary when editing JPEGs, each time you save them the quality may be reduced. Best to take a copy and edit that.
With raw files, they are normally non destructive edits, the raw file is not changed at all, the edit instructions are save separately in a sidecar file or database/catalog.

Its good to start off learning the ground rules. This is a fascinating hobby
