Editing single image in multiple Nik programmes?

Hi all.
I use LR CC, and have downloaded the Nik collection too.
My dilemma is this:
If I have a high ISO image, which I want to
a) reduce noise in Nik Define, then,
b) apply a b&w conversion in siler effex pro, then.
c) apply some output sharpening in sharpener pro 3.

So, as I understand it, I right click on the image in LR, and choose to edit in Define.
I choose to edit a copy with LR adjustments, because the image has been cropped etc. It produces a Tiff, which I then apply the NR I need.
When I'm done, how do I get the image into silver effex?
Do I have to save it, then re-open it in LR, right click then open in silver effex? If so, do I then choose the "edit a copy with LR adjustments" again?
When I do this, I end up with multiple copies of the image in LR.
I'm clearly doing something wrong somewhere along the line, but I'm not sure what I should be doing.
Any advice please?

When you save from define it will be sent back to LR, then you just edit in silver effects but this time you can edit the original.

If you have photoshop, this is what I do. Edit in Photoshop as a smart object, now you can edit using your various plugins from Nik, on1 etc. When done save and it will be sent back to LR.
this way you can reopen the image in PS and make changes to your edits because each plugin creates its own smart filter.

Which is exactly what I do too - I could never really see the benefits in smart objects for me

You don't have to use smart objects, but it does allow you to go back and continue editing where you left off or to make hanges to an edit instead of having to do it all from scratch.

It does create a larger file so if you are happy that you will never need to reedit then by all means don't use a smart object.

Well, I have done a few edits using smart objects, and each image ended up as a Tiff, up to 500 Mb in size !!
Guess I'm doing something wrong then !
