Edit My Images
Yes
I'm sure I've seen another post on this issue but can't find it. I have a 27" iMAC which i use to PP my images (using CS4), the screen is calibrated using a Spyder 3.

But when I look at the images on my laptop (a Sony) I often see image errors which are completely invisible on the iMAC. Its particularly and issue with blacks.

If I pull the contrast on an image right back I can often see them on the iMAC but still not as clearly as on the Laptop.

Its driving me nuts! Any suggestions?

Have you tried the Apple calibrate utility? then run Spyder

When you ran Spyder it would have probably asked something like can you see all the above grey squares as being different. Could you? If you couldn't then recalibrate it after adjusting contrast and brightness using Apple's calibrator and the inbuilt brightness control.

Thanks Cowasaki, I had done this but I'll run through it again. Could be user error :)

My iMac needs the brightness control dropping to about 50%, this give a screen luminance of 130cd/M2. It may be that the screen is too bright for the calibration software to reduce it a reasonable level and maintain good contrast.

The software I use allows the use of L* contrast which does tend to give better shadow detail. Not sure if you can select that with the Spyder, else opt for 2.2

I'm not sure if the spyder software allows some form of pre calibration set up. but if it does, use the brightness control to get the luminance bout right using the brightness slider. Then using the calibrate option in displays. Skip through all the options until you get to white balance and use the slider to approximate the correct RGB levels.

It's a bit of a clunky way but does work. Once you've got the brightness and the colour set about right, restart the Spyder software and run the calibration.

Works for me using the Eye One puck.

Also if you are on Snow leopard make sure you've got the latest Spyder software

Just an additional thought.

Try downloading a demo version of either Coloreyes Display Pro or Basicolour. Both are excellent calibartion software. See if they make any difference. Careful they are not cheap.

Here are some links

http://www.integrated-color.com/cedpro/coloreyesdisplay.html

Go for the basicolour one first.

Thanks Chappers. I'm off to play some more!
