I've heard a lot of raving about LR5 and how much better it is then elements so I've dl the LR5 trial. I have been playing with a portrait in LR5 but when I then edit it in Elements 9 it looses colour, which is rubbish. I have the settings right and have even played around with them but with no joy. It does come up with a messege saying that elements can't display all the colours the LR can. So if you want to edit a photo and then use layers, why would you use LR?

As they are both Adobe programs I was expecting seamless compatibility. Please help!!

I had thought PSE was only 8 bit, as opposed to LR's 16 which is why it 'loses' colour. That also explains the compatability issue. If you're using PSE for relativly few images I'd think carefully about if LR is what is needed alongside it

I do a lot of editing at the moment. I wanted to use LR because you can do the RAW adjustments in it rather than doing them in ACR. This means if, for example, you use to much clarity and then find later on in the PP that you want to reduce it, you can.

You can load a 16bit image from ACR into elements and I've never noticed any colour change. It does mean you are limited to what you can do so just change the image to 8bit. But even importing the image from ACR as 8 bit has never given me problems, let along like it is from LR.

Also from what you say what happens when you then convert to a JPEG, although I haven't worked this out yet. It seems to me at the moment that you get you photo spot on in LR but it only looks good there or on print?

Thanks

Makes sense to me using LR instead of ACR. I *think* though the version of ACR that comes with PSE is cut down in someways from the full version that comes with CS. I'd guess this is why you don't see the difference when using ACR

It dosn't always when you cnvert to jpeg. The colours will now match the coulourspace of the JPEG which is going to be considerably less the LR. But if thats an issue depends on the origial photo, your monitor and the colours in the photo.
