Eddie Izzard......

Can't stand him - but agreed - 27 Marathons in 27 days is a feat beyond many of us

I think he's a prize pillock TBH, but that is certainly some feet feat that's for sure

Out of interest, under the rules of the 100 Marathon Club (yes, that's a real thing) none of these actually count...... :)

They only "don't count" within the confines of that (rather inconsequential) club.
He raised a 5H1T load of money doing it....I think that was his aim rather than gaining entry into some club. o_O
He tried it a few years ago and failed, so I hope he's feeling rather proud.
As I said, like him or loathe him, anyone trying to belittle the achievement qualifies, IMO, as a bit of a gonk.

1.3 million was mentioned on the radio earlier

Tee-hee.

Can't help feeling that it would be soooooo nice to respond to folk who say " it wasn't done by the Rules of our Club '"

to say

" WELL NOW - show us how to do it then and match the money he has raised "

Yep, I'd say that qualifies as a 5H1T load :D

I also have a feeling that those club members who sneer, have completed 27 of their runs over the course of years, if not decades, rather than of 27 DAYS.

Plus his 43 in 51 days from the other year. Very impressive, both the feat and the amount of money he's raised.

27 marathons in 27 days (incl 2 on day 27) is quite something.
Dead easy, I could even find space for a few Mars bars and Kit-Kats on the side too

( Well someone was bound to say it, sooner or later, so it might as well be me :D )

(S)[k]nickers to you! :P

Topical?

I heard a Wispa that the Lion's share of chocolate jokes have been and gone, leaving very little Bounty for us latecomers.

What exactly are their objections? I could only find that they had 'no appetite' to change the rules to include him.

The Crème of the cop of chocolate related puns have gone - don't Egg us on to try finding more...

Good heavens. I never thought anybody would get so upset about a chance remark.....

Certainly, no, I don't think anybody would ever sneer at Mr Izzard. And definitely not the very people who know exactly how hard his achievement is.

" WELL NOW - show us how to do it then and match the money he has raised "

You're right of course. Without the wall to wall "news" coverage by the BBC, nobody could hope to match this level of fundraising. It doesn't stop them trying though.

They actually have some very strict rules on what counts. But mostly it will be the 25 finishers rule.

Hmm, I suppose I can see the point on that especially for verification, although I think they are being a little pedantic, his runs are clearly verified.

Their club, their rules!

I rather suspect that membership of their club isn't on his agenda, even if keeping him out appears to be on theirs!

Yeah true, I doubt he would pass the dress code anyway ;)

I don't think it's a case of trying to keep him out. More the BBC being stuck for some extra spin to put on the news.

Saves anybody rehashing that Panorama programme about the £100M missing from Comic/Sports Relief.....

Not sure if you have seen the end of the clip, but after his last day double marathon he had to run up those steps, lovely way to finish!

Very impressive, you have to have a certain mental endurance for that I'm sure. He's not my cup of tea in general, but it's hard not to like someone who puts themselves out like that, for the reasons he is doing it.

He was good in Valkyrie

Sunday morning I think , they went to him live and he could barely speak he was that knackered , I think he needs to up his game next year, running in stilettos perhaps.

i could probably just about do 1 marathon in 27 days so credit where it's due, well done Eddie

IIRC the last person to try this made it 7 miles before needing medical attention.

But they didn't have eddies years of experience

Seriously, anybody attempting to run a marathon in stilettos needs to foot the medical bill for being so stupid

Accounts vary over what happened at 7 miles. She had to change shoes though and that invalidated her record attempt.

He does not look like he has the fitness to run one marathon never mind 27. Are some people just built (heart/lung performance) to run long distance?

I trained for 6 months to run my first half marathon and never made managed to go for the full!

How does an apparently fit person look?

I was a bit irritatated when BBC Breakfast had Kelly Holmes on.

She was whinging about how she, an ex Olympic champion, can possibly manage to run the London Marathon, whilst she chatted with Eddie who'd just finished his 27th! Talk about trying to build your part.

As a friend of mine is fond of saying "I'm in shape, round is a shape"

Wouldn't have minded seeing him sent to Robben Island for 27 years.

He's not on very often, is he?

He's been on a bit lately though, I must admit.

Apparently he's been doing something very difficult and raising significant amounts of money, or something.

What is it about him you don't like, out of interest?
