Yes
Anyone had one of these? if so did they have any problems afterwards?

Andy

Anyone had one? - Yep
Problems Afterwards? - Yep, keeping my licence clean. Plus, I seem to go through tyres and petrol a lot quicker than I used to :D

It does make your insurance renewal a much more time consuming process though.

I have an ECU map on my car - no problems at all.... lots of fun :D

Ta for the replies. looking at getting the Astra done, been quoted 45bhp increase (150-195 :D) and 60ft/ibs of torque (234 to 294 i think) will have to see what it would do to insurance

thats about right I think.. remember the MAPs can vary from car to car so you may not get as much as 45, but you might get more!

The gain will vary, and you'll see much more of a gain with an induction kit. The bonus of a remap is it's completely reversible and the more reputable companies will hold your original map on disc to restore it if you wanted, some will even to the restore for free. Where ever you go make sure they dyno your car before AND after, and ask to see the graph to ensure they're not taking you for a ride.

I had a stage 2 bluefin map on my astra vxr, with the rest of the mods it took it to about 300bhp and it was a total beast! Didn't meet many cars on a day to day basis that could keep pace!

A bit of a different fush to the 54bhp smart diesel I have on order now....

Fish not fush!

£80 more on insurance but that was for all the mods! Exhaust, suspension, rollbars, remap, induction kit etc...

That's incredible, I forget how much my increase was, but it was way more than that. Only mods I have are uprated dampers and springs, uprated brakes (discs, pads and hoses), induction kit and alloy rims.

Had my old Saab 9-3 mapped to over 300bhp with software, 3" exhaust and downpipe, ball bearing turbo and uprated injectors. Not bad considering it started life as a 154bhp light pressure turbo. The best bit was the insurance quote - no additional increase to the premium!!! That was with LV who soon stopped that particular policy. Still, it was good while it lasted.

I think a lot of peoples wallets cried when LV stopped covering mods as standard :'(

Have you got the 1.9 CDTi? I think the figures match up... You should look in to DTUK or equivalent boxes. They're cheaper, you fit them yourself and you can remove at any time too. Check out www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk I think the owner of DTUK is on there

I wish I could get mine done but the 1.8 doesn't take to tuning very well...

aye the 1.9CDTI with the go faster button on the dashboard :D

What kind of price are you looking at for a remap?? I'm not sure that my ECU is functioning properly at the moment (lack of power etc, and we've tried loads of different things to get it running right) so I wouldn't mind it being remapped even to it's original settings.

Cheers for the info Joe.

Candlestick, it looks to be between 200 and 400

Andy, not sure if you've gone ahead with this yet but www.angeltuning.co.uk did a cracking job to my 2.0 HDI xsara, and my uncles 2.0 HDI C5.

I find the powerband is lower in the range at about 1500rpm as opposed to 2250. I've also found that if driven normally I get better MPG as I'm not having to use the right foot so heavily to get where I want to be. I've done 70k miles since having this done and have had no issues at all.

Better still, they come to you.

Andy, depending on the vehicle and the state of 'tune' I would advise that you look for a remap(per) that does a bespoke map to your particular engine. It's all very well going for these 'off the shelf' maps but you're paying £xxx for a map that's been done off someone elses engine, and in some cases a different car (but same engine as yours if you have an widely used engine) - The generic map, will certainly give benefits but it's a bit of a mixed bag, some people will see dramatic improvements (mid range, peak hp and mpg) whilst other dont see such large improvements. The difference in price you pay for a standardised one a bespoke is usually the case of less than a couple of hundred.

Hi Andrew Angel tuning are the company i have a quote from :) Havent done the remap yet as i'll be fitting a recon turbo next week, got symptoms of a bearing going on the current turbo :(

Hi Adsayer

You make a very good point and one i had already considered. I'm going to steer clear of the off the shelf plug and play jobbies.

Cool stuff Andy, and again be sure that the electronic map you're being sold is not a generic map. If it's bespoke they'll need to run the car on a rolling road, so it's fairly easy to tell what type of map you're getting :)

Deffo right about that, i want to see the rolling road data before and after :)

Thanks for advice and input from everyone.

Once again the forum comes up tops for help on pretty much anything

Andy, I found the guy who came to do mine from angeltuning to be a top bloke, he did the remap, and told me he could take it further but wouldn't advise it due to my car being the 90BHP model without the intercooler, as a result he'd recommend only upping it to approx 125 :)

Thought this was good as many would up it and let you drive the car for 6 months until something broke.

When he'd finished with the tune the car run much smoother and quieter so I suspect he may have adjusted the timing a little to suit. certainly a great job very well done.

You won't regret it!

I agree with Adsayer - if you can get a custom map for your car it will be benficial. Jabbasport did my car and the wrote the map specificly with the other mods to make full use of them! :)
