The boss has decided she would like a kindle reader.

Should I buy a kindle, kobo reader or spend a bit more and get a cheap less than £200 android tablet.

Main use would be as ereader but the additional internet access would be beneficial.

Any suggestions please
 
errrrrm.... speaking from a womans perspective, if she's mentioned 'kindle' that's what she wants, so get her a kindle.
Unless, of course, you decide to get her an ipad2 ;)
 
all i can say is i have a kindle and wouldn't be without it, i think for £89 you can't go wrong, it does what its designed to do very very well, never did fancy a tablet, personally the thought of reading for long periods off a back lit screen gives me headache
 
I got myself a Kindle for Christmas and enjoyed it, until I got my iPad2 and now the Kindle sits in the draw as a backup. I use the kindle reader for iPad.

As for Liz saying about the backlit screen (iPad) you can set the brightness on the iPad2 and I find that mines rarely over half way and I find it easier to read as it is a lot clearer than the kindle.

I went to WHSmith's the other day and spoke to a guy in there who was walking around with an iPad asking if people wanted to go in for a draw to win one, anyway we got talking and he said he bought the Kobo and he reckons that its better than the iPad as it does more.

My personal preference, it has to be my iPad2.

A tablet has one big advantage over an ebook reader, you can read it with the lights off.
 
You can read a kindle outdoors in the sun though which you cant do with an iPad.

Exactly, better than a book in that respect
 
The two things an e-book reader has over a tablet of any description is battery life & size. If those are important (trips etc...) there really is only one option.

My Kindle, with the wifi turned off i charge around once a month and it isn't dead at that, and i do use it every day for at least an hr without fail, most days its a couple of hrs

A couple of month with the WiFi off.

I think a lot of people miss the point of an eink device. Its designed to mimic paper and print which will always be a lot easier on the eyes to read for long periods than a ips or lcd screen. I have an Asus Tablet which I sometimes use for reading the Kindle app but when I really want to sit and just read you can't beat the Kindle.

Interesting.. I reckon I could squeeze 1.5 maybe 2 weeks out of my iPad if I used it purely for books with turned wifi etc off, turned the screen to manual brightness on a reasonable setting and maybe turn some apps off.
 
I had an Elonex ereader a couple of years ago, got about a month at a time out of it too.

If you're straining your eyes on a LCD then you have it too bright :)
 
I've never drained the battery in 18 months of using, mine was last charged around 2 weeks ago, and it is just showing off fully charged, like i said i use it for at least an hr a day, because of its size its with me at all times, i read it on breaks/lunch at work and last thing at night, if i'm really into a book or series of books (just finished the Hunger games Trilogy) then its for a good 4hrs or so on a night
 
My other half just took her ipad with kindle reader to Tenerife and it was totally useless; just unreadable in the bright light no matter what she tried - I did tell her at the time she should have got a proper Kindle and saved (me) over £300!

Exactly that. Reading on e-ink is a pleasure, reading on back lit LCD is painful after a while.
 
I didn't much like reading kindle books on my ipad1 or galaxy tab....but on the ipad3...it's lovely. Sepia background and brightness turned right down it's very easy on the eyes.
