eBay?

Sorry you are wrong on this.

Try listing an item - there is no way to switch Paypal off.

"We're making transactions safer for eBay members by updating our accepted payments policy. The policy requires all sellers to offer PayPal as a payment method in their listings"

Several times when selling more expensive items I have put Paypal cannot be accepted, cash on collection, and some interfering busybody has reported the listing and Ebay cancels it and does not reimburse listing fees paid.

very interesting, that must be new :bat:
just like they stopped Quidco cashback in January.

Well, certainly no more selling with them :shake:

Yes friend, i am not reaponsable for there actions!

Maybe not but by not reporting him, you're condoning the thieving b****rd's actions and possibly making yourself an accessory after the fact.

is the technical term "perverting the justice" or something similar?

Not sure.

More like 'aiding and abetting' -or should be.

After getting my fingers burnt a few times i will never use ebay again, i now sell my stuff on Gumtree, or for sale or swap on facebook.

You do know eBay owns gumtree right?

Just as many scammers there as eBay.

Gumtree is no safer than eBay - please take my word for that.

Your post really makes me wonder why i bother posting things on this sometimes! I was mearly stating a fact about a situation i know! Dosent mean i am involved and they know my views it!

Also an accessory would need me to be involved in the scam or scheme..... WHICH I AM NOT!

That is like you being jimmy savilles friend and saying you must have know somethink about it so we will hand out a sentence and punishment to you aswell! (Bit extreme but you should get the picture)

Read up on the law before you go throwing around crap like that!

David,

I think some of the posts (including mine) have been written 'a bit tongue in cheek'
- it would have been better if you hadn't mentioned your mate but there you go.

Well its firmly noted for next time.

:-)

Thanks Al

My mate does a bit of human trafficing but not much I can do about it. We don't half have a great time down the pub together though so nevermind.

Completly completly different! I give up :)

My post was not tongue in cheek. Your "friend" is a thief, pure and simple and by letting him get away with it, you ARE condoning his actions.

If Jimmy Savile had been a friend and I had been aware of his extra curricular activities, I would have reported them to the relevant authorities.

I joined eBay in 2001 to sell my Rollei 35LED (!) and it was great for years. Now I wouldn't use them for selling anything decent mainly due to the rip off charges from the eBay/Paypal cartel with little in return for sellers. I had a similar experience to Mystery57, selling a Nikon D90. I thought I was being a good trader by sending it as soon as I had the Paypal notification; a day later Paypal sent me an email telling me not to send the goods as the card registered was fraudulent. After much emailing and threats of legal action, pointing out that I had complied with their T&C to the letter (I had sent the D90 RMSD) they agreed liability but only refunded the Paypal fee (£14+) as a 'gesture of goodwill'!!!!!!
On the other hand, as has been pointed out, if you are a buyer just raise a discrepancy with PP and you'll get a refund immediately usually.

Very little we can do beyond RTM.

Now you know about it, you must be an accessory and guilty too then??

Nope no fuilt here! Not my life henwill get caught sooner or later ;-)

and theyd of ignored you as well as all the others

Anyway! Ive done somethink about it now guys so itl b sorted aoon :-)

Well done.

There is always a risk when buying and selling anywher. In the early days of ebay, the risk was more on the buyer as noted earlier in the thread. Now it has gone the other way which impacts more on the casual seller. A business will price an element of scams into their pricing (just like a shop with thieving).

I sold a D5100 body a few weeks ago on ebay and the transaction went smoothly (so far!)

You wouldn't want to see it first, or are you a don't look at the mantlepiece man?

The idiots at paypal kept not reading my emails properly,

Tell me about it !!! They also aren't Hercule Poirot! They couldn't see the difference between the buyer who opened dispute to them and wrote a letter to me. Regarding about a jacket, he told them that he only wore twice when the jacket ripped and told me he only wore once for a few minutes lol

I've got over 700 feedback (over 100 are for items sold) and only being stung once, someone did a chargeback on an item that was a few hundred pounds, since then i've always been very careful.

If i'm buying any photography related that is expensive, I prefer to look for auctions less than 50 miles so I can pick them up, try etc before handing over any money.

One case out of a trillion may matter if it is you but it doesn't mean the whole system is faulty.

Quite right. People are very quick to report problems, especially now that we can put it all over forums and Facebook but the millions of transactions which go through with no problems don't get a mention.

Steve.

Steve.

its not how many of there are its how they are dealt with that is the problem

I read the original post and thought it was about me! I bought a 24-105 from eBay the other week that had an Error 01. I wasn't sure whether the buyer was trying to scam me with a broken lens, but he was very helpful and gave me a full refund when I told him after 3 days. Seems that old 24-105s don't like transport.

It was very tense waiting for my refund though, all the fault of paypal, took the seller ages to complete the bank setup, as he had spent the money and then PayPal has a 7 day 'pending' period after which, it refunded half the money to my credit card, which did not help me whatsoever.

Paypal always act as though they own your money, which is infuriating.
