Sitting here seething :bang: :bang:

Just had an email from 'them' to say me account has been hacked and I must have replied to a spoof email. which of course I haven't. But sure enough I cant logon as my password isn't working. Sent them an email back asking what the * is going on. Suggested either they find out who, what, when and why or cancel the account. Also, just as a precaution change all me passwords in paypal :bang: :bang:

They wont reply with anything sensible, trust me.

I have had this *constantly* recently, and it was because I was logging into my ebay account on another machine at home, on the same connection! (It was also doing this with my work machine of course).

As a precaution, never use paypal. ;)

You didn't try and log on through a link in the email did you?
Are you sure it's not a spoof?

A good way to check is if the address you with Dear somethingsomething or Dear {username}

Strange that, cos for years now I've been logging into ebay both at work and on various machines at home. Never had this before, unless of course their systems just woken up to the fact. Hell, 4 years lag isn't a bad response time, I suppose

No way, Ive emailed them direct but would NEVER follow a link from email. Toooo risky ;)

This has been happening over the last few weeks for me, although I have been also doing it for years. Probably some kind of change in their system. They (and paypal) have always been known for doing this anyway, its a suprise they didn't do it any sooner.

I have had the same problem on 2 occasions now.

I have found the quickest way to re-gain your account is to log into Live help and speak direct with an eBay Representative

Click here and scroll down to Live Help..

A window will open like MSN and after a few minutes you will be speaking live to eBay helpline and your account will be restored after a few personal details have been answered.

Ooo taa for that. I'll give it a go after lunch, oh and the shopping :(

It's possible that they have changed their system as a response to the massive increase in account hacking recently.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about looking for a laptop and the scammers I found. Since then I've reported a dozen more accounts all apparently hacked by the same person/s offering too good to be true deals. They are not looking to take your money via ebay they want bank details etc.

I had a similar problem about a month ago while i was on holiday!
My account had been comprimised and someone had put loads of golf clubs up for sale, ebay froze my account and sorted it all out. Meanwhile people who had bought said golf clubs were emailing me with things like "where do i send payment?" "when will i get my club?" and loads of similar ebay questions. To ebay's credit they sorted it all out before i came home, the only thing i noticed was a massive load of ebay mail in my inbox and had to get a new password.

Like you i don't know how it could happen, i never reply to spoof emails and i actually always forward them to ebay's fraud dept. so i have no idea how it was hacked

Welcome to the world of Spamalot !

Funny you should mention this, look what arrived in my email box just now !

Strangely enough, it was sent to an email account i do not have registered with Ebay !!! :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Needless to say i HAVE NOT clicked on any of the links ;)

I always get that email too. I know it's a fake for sure because it gets sent to my Hotmail account where as my eBay account is registered with my Yahoo account.
Theres a lot of fake emails going on around now such as people sending you questions or payment request for things that you've never listed or bidded on eBay.
The links on the email takes you to a fake eBay site and asks for loggin details.

I actually do follow the links sometimes for fun.

You can always tell a goof email cause if the url for the login link doesnt have exactly www.ebay.com or co.uk then its dodgy. Some of the domains setup for the dodgy page don't even try to make a similar doman name.

Anyway I follow the link and type the most abuse I can in the boxes. Basically telling them to get a life and stop ripping other people off in the most abusive way possible. Then submit.

It makes me feel a little bit better :)

LOL I doubt it'll make them feel one ounce of remorse, but I bet it feels relieving :D

What you need to do is type in completely fake, but plausible credentials....and keep doing it. (Especially credit card details).

That way they waste their time trying them :D

just had to change my login info, as they say i have nearly been violated, and as a precaution changed my details.
sick freaks, get rid of the pc brigade, get rid of the do gooders, and lets kick ass..
