I hope i am not repeating anything here, and sorry if i am.
I just received the below via an email, i thought i had read about something similar, although at this point i am going to ignore it, just wondered if any others have received the same...

It appears that a third party accessed your eBay account and used it to send emails to other eBay members without your authorisation.

At this time we have taken several steps to secure your eBay account. We assure you that your credit card and bank details are kept encrypted on secure server and have not been viewed by anyone.

To restore access to your account securely, please follow these steps

1. Change the password on your personal email account to verify that it is secure and cannot be accessed by anyone other than you.

2. Change the password on your eBay account. Click "I've forgotten my password" on the eBay sign-in page and follow the instructions to choose a new password.

3. Check that the contact information on your account is correct. Go to "Personal Information" in My eBay.

We recommend you take our Account Protection tutorial to help understand how your account was compromised and how you can protect yourself in future. Copy this link into a new browser window:

Yes, I had this a few weeks ago.

Ended up using the "Live help" thingy on ebays help pages to get my password reset.

Was a right curfuffel.

I got one of those when I used an account I hadn't used in a while, it was addressed to me by name so i'm pretty sure it came from ebay, it's probably sent at random to ebay users as please change your password emails would just get ignored

I changed my passwords anyway because it can't do any harm, just do it by logging in direct, not through any links in the email

I've had this 4 times in a few weeks. I queried it with ebay and it is genuine. I asked why it's happening so much lately when it hasn't happened to me in years. They told me to upgrade my spyware software, which I've done.

I suggest you do the same. Your account is de-activated until you change your password.

I have just been through the system, been told i will receive a new password, but has not come through, this dam ebay gets worse and worse...

Can you guide me to the Live Help page, i cannot find it any where..

When I tried to join e-bay I was told I couldn't due to possible/potential fraud and to send ID to Ireland????

I gave up which has probably saved me money and from dusting nicknacks - trying to look on the bright side

Yep, went through the forgot password, received a email, clicked on the link, but it still keeps asking me for my password, that now does not work.

What i cannot also make out, is when i go to ebay home page, it has the "Sign Out" telling me iam signed in, i make a move to view my ebay and it asks me to sign in.....
hair pulling stuff this..

This can happen if you usually use Ebay at home, and you log on, say from work or elsewhere

Ebay sees the IP address is different, and assumes unauthorised access.

Ok all, just been able to resolve the problem, it seems another ebay member reported me for making contact on a subject that had nothing to do with what he was selling, this was a normal suspension, ebay has now placed me back and all is back to normal.
EXCEPT. I now see the reason why this has happened and please take time to read on and tell me if it’s worth pursuing

Ebay member had a post card I wanted, I made contact and offered a price as a "Buy It Now",although at the time there was no Buy It Now listed on the item, he emailed me saying this would be ok and to send him a cheque £6.00, mean time some one had bid on the item, but the seller removed it and was to sell it to me as agreed on the 10th Dec, as we were emailing through ebay I felt I must be covered.
However I have not received the postcard nor any reimbursement , I replied via ebay many times using the postcard link to ask what has happened, no response, so I thought I will make contact through one of his other postcards on sale, explaining the problem, he then went along and reported me, hence the suspension.

Should I report this to ebay, have I any rights because I DID use ebay mailing so they must have copies.
Waht do you think?..
What really annoys me is he has not responded and he then reported ME, when it is clearly him to fault....

If all fails little does he know I have his phone number and know he attends Postcard fairs....?

Thanks.

The item was sold outside of ebay in a private sale so they won't be interested in helping you

Interesting, but all contact was made via ebay messaging, would you think that this does not count?.
Thanks..

It's against fleabay's rules to take the transaction off-eBay. You are circumventing their fees so they won't protect you. They might close the seller's account if you provide the details. Years ago you could contact your bank and ask them to contact the other person's bank and get it sorted, but the last time I tried anything similar (cheque arrived without an address) neither my bank nor the sender's wanted to help.

It's OK to ask the seller to cancel the auction if no-one's bidding and re-do it as a Buy It Now, but it has to all be done through fleabay.

There must have been something relating to either your ip or physical address (perhaps relating to a previous resident or something like that) which flagged up with the fraud team. I think they've had so many scams pulled on them that they are over zealous when it comes to potential fraud nowadays and they end up inconveniencing innocents :(
