Sorry if this is old news to you folks, but it came as a shock to me today.

Whenever you sell anything on ebay you must always get proof of delivery when posting to qualify for any sort of recompense if it all goes wrong. A fairly commonsense approach you may think. But did you know that if someone pays for something via Pay Pal then comes to collect the item, they can then reverse the payment and claim they never collected it! even if you have a signature as proof of collection? Because of course they then claim thats not their signature and Pay pal just gives them the payment back.:bonk:

Luckily for me this lesson only cost me 27 quid, but it's the freakin principle of the thing.

I'm always wary on ebay. Just trying to get to 100 posts on here so I can sell some stuff and avoid the place.

Thanks for that tip though, had no idea about that.

i always send everything recorded.. but seriously... is this really photography ?

Certainly a lesson worth learning ,cash on pickup

This place has been fantastic for me, bought two lenses this week, no worries about whether they'll turn up and confidence that what you buy is what you'll get.

From now on I'll be buying pretty much all my lenses second hand and probably from here if I can find what I need.

Just said as much earlier.. I have a good record on ebay 100% buying and selling but it seems to be a real gamble now.

I'll second that, new here and already bought 3 lenses in one transaction without any worry. Everyone very friendly and all wanting to help each other out and treating how they would like to be treated. How it should be!

I've never used ebay except for just browsing because I've always thought it was a hassle and not ever trusted it completely for purchasing.

A lot of people buy and sell gear on The Bay,so I think it is relevant Tony.....

You grumpy sod........

Stanley going stay up this season or what?

oi .. i meant it could be in out of focus or whatever its called...

you could start a thread about chips and say well.. lots of photographers eat chips...

anyway... are you up early or bed late? :)

There is nothing in the forum title that says it has to be tog related, just "Shopping, Suppliers and Bargains For discussion of all shopping related topics. Retailers and suppliers, where to buy, customer service, prices and discounts. Also share any photography bargains you have spotted. Now includes TP affiliate threads and exclusive member discounts." The only mention of photography is the bit underlined

Sorry to hear that, think I would be insisting on cash only if collecting as I would be suspisious if someone payed via paypal and then wanted to collect - unfortunately, as you have shown and found out. If someone was insisting on paypal, i'd be insisting on recorded delivery then

A lesson for those using e-bay to possibly remember

Two things, if they payed by paypal you have their address, if they collected they are close enough for you to pay a visit.

same happened to me , i sold some mags to an american buyer who claimed never to have received them and then asked why i charged £7 postage when it only cost me £6.20 only way he would of know is by looking at the printed postage stamp on the packet.....cash on collection is best

Just to clear it up it was originally in talk photography, I shifted it here :)

Thanks Treeman very informative, i have feedback of 581 all 100 percent on fleabay.
I knew people could claim back payments but not really looked into details i look for seller protected and every time someone wants to collect i insist on cash on collection.
Agree about purchasing on here as my i trader contests, a very good set of folks on here.

There is usually a helpful clue in the thread, when this happens, to avoid any such confusions... :naughty:

Better late than never... :D

:p

I generally avoid eBay now, its geared to favour the buyer and most of the time the seller gets nailed.

eBay has lost its original charm where everyone went to sell their second hand items from the attic and things, now its just full of power sellers who dominate and get favoured with lower fees, and the little guys lose out.

The seller protection policy is also a load of tosh.

TP for me! :D
