Ebay sale question

As usual the buyer collected some old junk from the shed and paid for an item but can't be bothered to click "buy" online. If I close the listing now ebay will harass me again. The fees would be only £1 as it was special listing offer, so don't bother me at all. It's a shame you can't mark it yourself as sold.
What's the best way out?
 
Send them a message saying you've just read the rules and you cant agree the sale outside of eBay... Then let the sale end naturally or send them a message saying you've realised something is missing and you need to end the sale as not as described

No 100% sure what you issue is?

I assume it’s that someone else may “buy it” and then you’ll have to tell them that it’s already sold?

However this could have happened when the person who has bought it was on their way to view it. Hence I don’t see how your have a problem because you didn’t mind this risk in the first place.

What you should have done is either:
1) make them buy on eBay before coming to collect
2) had eBay open in case someone else purchased when the buyer was on their way (in which case you’d have then had to tell the person who came in person that it was already sold) and if not already sold then told the buyer to buy on eBay before you handed over (and you’d have had eBay open anyway which would have reminded you).

Anyway I think you have 3 options:
1) contact eBay customer services, explain and ask them to mark as sold or remove the listing
2) as suggested get a friend to “buy” it so it’s marked as sold
3) just leave the listing until it expires. If someone else purchases then you’ll just have to tell them it’s already sold, and as noted above you were already running this risk when the other buyer was coming to look at the items anyway

Better than that, also increase the price. I'd also suggest making sure it's set to expire after a set period (30 days) rather than automatically relisting
It's definitely not standard practice to have sold it the way you did, but at least doing these things should dissuade potential buyers.

Probably worth a go, and change it from 4 down to 1 at the same time! I am sure if some crazy entity decided to buy one I could source it in a couple of days!

It's been pretty standard way of selling and buying locally items you want to inspect and collect. I just didn't have anyone else with such fear of "Buy it now" button.

It hasn't happened personally in one or two occasions (under 50) but generally my policy is cash on collection unless they really insist otherwise and value is low.
 
Apparently it is not possible to change from auto-relisting to fixed term. I will have to cancel after a week or so and hopefully by then it won't get flagged up any more.

Just on one of your points, getting them to buy, pay by PayPal and then collect is a very bad idea. That way you have no proof they collected and no proof of postage. It’d be very easy for a buyer to claim an item was never sent and claim their money back.

If a person is collecting, always take cash or bank transfer, or else you have absolutely no protection.

Well this is all big pile of pig manure

It is just impossible to deal with some buyers that are crazy in their head and then the fun comes only one way. It gets tempting to write a them a note about the buyer. I did ask and it wasn't my fault! So much for selling some crap as a favour for somebody else.
