OK, I'll give this post another go. A bid has ended on eBay for an item I'm selling and the winner, who lives in Poland, has not paid or communicated with me for going on 34-hours now. I've sent him an eBay message asking about his courier requirements. I've sent him an invoice with the cheapest tracked international rate for the item. I've also sent him another eBay message asking why he hasn't communicated yet and if he is having a problem getting the funds, politely telling him that I'm OK to wait a little, but wouldn't mind him at least talking to me as it's a courteous thing to do given his non-payment.

I know that I can only file a dispute with Ebay after 7-days, but to be honest, I'd rather just contact the 2nd person on the bidding list and sell the item to them. It was a fairly pricey item, the winning bid coming in at £530, so I'm a bit anxious to move it on as I need the mulla.

What is eBay's policy on 2nd chance offers if the original winning buyer doesn't pay for like 2-3 days?

You need to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I notice he hasn't received any feedback for the previous two high-value items he won and one of those was over three weeks ago. Might be worth emailing the other sellers and asking if he's paid them yet...

He's in Poland and maybe has limited access to email/internet. Exactly, I'll give him a bit more time ;)

Best to contact eBay and ask them what the best procedure is, I reckon you'd be best relisting it rather than trying for 2nd best offer if the guy doesn't come across. I hope you said paypal only in your auction, I seem to remember someone having difficulty transferring cash from Poland via bank transfer.

Yep I said paypal only. I'll ask eBay if I can relist. How do I avoid this in future... say only people with positive comments can bid?

I got sick and tired of exactly this sort of thing so I made all my "auctions" Buy It Now" with immediate payment required. Since doing this I've only had one payment default -on the only item I decided to list as a normal auction....

Ouch - either you've sold a lot or just have really bad luck!

I've sold my fair share on eBay and this is the first time I've received no response for so long...

Dont go to second chance offer just yet.You could end up paying double fees unless you wait to file a non payment complaint.Ebay assume you are selling two similiar items and will charge you twice.
Pete.

Back when I used Ebay regularly I was selling 2-300 items a week :bonk:.

It was a nightmare having to constantly chase people for payment. It never ceased to amaze me how many people were rushed into hospital within minutes of winning an auction....:suspect:

Ah, thanks, didn't know that. In fact I can wait a bit, but still I can't wait for ever :shake:

There's every chance that his account is registered in Poland, but he's over in the UK working - might not have regular internet, yadda yadda yadda.

Personally, I consider it fair game to second chance offer if you see fit.

Nah, I saw his delivery address is in Poland, so he's got to be there. As per previous post, I could get charged twice by eBay if I do a 2nd chance offer, though...

If you asked for a paypal paiement, contact them, they can help you.
don't forget to read their security instructions page on their site.

Quick poll

Who the hell does not pay, as soon as they know they won an item ?

I mean, gawd, if I'm watching something, 9 times out of 10 I'm there bidding in the last 10 seconds, therefore I know I won it, why in gods name would I not pay for it right then.
I'll tell you why, cos I'm buggering about/considering a fiddle, or I'm the 2% minority waiting for some contact with the seller or for my wages to go in the bank.
If it was me, I'd be basing odds that this transaction will go fine, once in fifty late paying non communicating auctions....:shake:

I'll bite. I always pay once I've heard back from the seller - and usually within about 2-3 hours max.

I'd never leave it more than 6-7 hours as it's just rude in my opinion!

Cheers,
James

Jox, I forgot to mention: he only has 7 stars (and 100% feedback of course since he's never sold anything) though in his comments from sellers, 2 have said that he never paid and to avoid. I think that puts in him a 'dodgy' category imo. Unfortunately it's impossible to 'avoid' buyers like this unless you do what FITP does and whack it on with immediate payment.

For the poll, I never let more than an hour or two pass before making a payment, just in case the seller wants to contact me first. Even if the seller hasn't contacted me/sent an invoice, I usually just make a payment anyway. I've agreed to buy the item and it's just polite to pay asap.

I always pay at once, can't see any reason to delay.

Always at one and exclusively with Paypal.
But your buyer can also have used a robot to bid at the end of the auctions, and don't know he was the winner.

Sellers cannot leave bad feedback any more, so they have to leave +ve and state in the comment that he/she is a non payer. Best thing is to go down the unpaid item route as you will get the final value fee refunded, and if more people do it then he/she will have 2 unpaid item strikes, which means that they cannot bid on things listed by someone like me who restricts the bidding to those who have less than 2 strikes.

Total pain in the backside for you though, hopefully ebay will refund the fees so you can either relist or do a second chance offer.

Well, coming up on 3 days now without communication. I've also tried raising a dispute with eBay, but their automated message says I will have to wait until 7 days after the bid ended. They will cover the fees apparently and allow me to re-list.

I will make sure this person gets a strike if they don't pay before the 7 days are up - better for everyone in the end. I don't know why eBay implemented the stupid no negative feedback on buyers rule - really sucks...

sell within the uk only....

wait the 7 days then follow the paypal procedure TO THE LETTER.

Well, ****** for brains has finally sent me a message saying that he has sent me 2 messages already and he wants to collect in person. He's asked me to re-invoice without P&P costs. Hopefully this will now finally be paid.

ebay messages are terrible. i dont know why i ever bother replying to buyer questions as they either dont get there or go into someones junk filter.

i've got to say though that i dont really get what you are complaining about.
its not really much of a big deal if someone doesnt pay you within 3-4 days.
I've sold 2000 things on ebay and although its nice to get paid straight away I'm not too bothered if they take 3-4 days.

I'd be more annoyed that they opted for delivery when they bought the item but now all of a sudden change their mind and say collection! Didn't you say he was in Poland?! Surely fedex would be cheaper?! :D

I guess when rudeness becomes the norm, anyone would eventually get used to it.

It's been paid now, at last!

Just a quick word of caution, if they want to collect get them to bring cash with them, if they do paypal and then say they didn't collect the item you risk losing both the money and the item you sold as paypal will give them back the money without a proof of delivery signature from the postal company !!!!

Too late now, he's paid through Paypal. I have been advised to get him to sign a receipt of collection from my house and to also tell him to log into his eBay account at my home computer and to mark the item as collected as a condition of taking the item away.

What wack 61 said! Many have been caught like this before and ebay will NOT be on your side so why take the risk? CASH on collection or NO collection, end of!

Or, since he's in London to collect, it may be worth paying £20-odd for the item to be couriered so there will be a proof of delivery...

make sure it can be tracked online though, if it's not online for them to check they won't accept it

Against my own advise I listed a car as a classified advert on Ebay and some eejit "bought" it - except he wants me to tax and insure it for him and then pay for it to be delivered to his home hundreds of miles away, when he will pay me....

I'm away to find a mirror to check to see if I have a zip up the back of my head :bang:

Wait a minute, only the owner of the car can insure it

Still, you could make an effort if you really cared about your customer... :suspect:

Correct, only the owner can insure the car, tbh I don't think he had any intention of buying the it.As soon as he had stopped the listing by "buying", he started asking the sort of questions you should ask before committing to a purchase.

In the end I offered to meet him at the train station, bring him out let him try the car and take him back again even to knock £50 off the price to cover the delivery charge, but he wanted the £50 and for me to deliver it
and then he would pay for it.

The annoying thing is, it's the cheapest car of it's type/age that I can find for sale anywhere :bang:

I'm always wary of buying on ebay now.

I ordered something from someone with very good feedback, only a smallish item around £10, can't even remember what it was. I bid, I won I paid as soon as I won.
Did it arrive? Nope, emailled seller constantly over a period of 2 weeks and no response, emailled threatening an ebay/ paypal dispute and still no reponse.
I eventually opened a dispute and there is abit in there where you write what outcome you want, I wrote I either want a full refund or the item delivered.
A few days later the item was received a total of 6-8 weeks later (post-marked 2 days before) No note of apology, no contact at all from the seller throughout (who was a power seller) so I closed the dispute.

I was looking for a D80 the other day and there was a shop on there selling them brand new for £400. Good feedback, 2 negative saying item advertised as brand new but clearly wasn't when received but that was against around 1000 - 2000 positive feedback. I steared clear as thought if it sounds too good it probably is.

FilterFantastic, by any chance? :suspect:

No it was EportUK (the one with the D80) I mean they might be perfectly genuine, they probably are but as I wasn't sure I didn't buy.
