Last night I won an auction for a 1D mkIIN body (£1200). :) I was quite pleased with this for about 10 minutes. Then I tried to pay via paypal as usual and thats when the problems started. :( I recieved an email from the seller saying that she cancelled my transaction (something to do with somebody having her paypal details). I then recieved an invoice to pay via a different method (moneygram?). Sounded dodgy! :suspect:
So, basically I do not want to pay unless its paypal and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this? and could I just pull out of the transaction as it was stated in the listing you could pay with paypal?

Any advice would be welcome, cheers, Mark.

Yep, I would pull out on those grounds. Not your problem if she said she would accept PayPal and then change her mind. Just send her a polite message and say that you ONLY use PayPal and thats why you bid. Walk away my friend..........

Mark, that sounds very Dodgy. I wouldn't part with any money until you have the answers you need or walk away from this one. It's odd behaviour (= suspicious) to suddenly change the payment method after it's been sold!

I agree with Kev or if its in the UK, and near you why not arrange to meet up and pay when you pickup your camera, did you check out her feedback?

Dave

Yeah I checked her feedback (100%), but its just too dodgy for me so I'll send her an email and tell her it's a no go. Cheers for the help guys.

Now to look for another camera!

walk away from it take the negative and if an ebay complaint is started i feel you would be backed. stick with the i only use paypal to ge tthe protection routine.

dodgy

Sounds to me like her ebay account has been hijacked. I've has this twice before.
Just a thought.

report the item to ebay & Paypal - this is the type of scam used when an account has been hijacked.

Is this it?

Dont even buy it with paypal, if it all goes wrong you will only get 150.00 of your 1.200 back, I have just been turned over for a lg viewty phone on ebay and got 150.00 of my 165.00 back..better than nothing but you would lose over a grand.
I am glad that you had the good sense to walk away.

Report it to eBay, and include a copy of the email asking you to pay by Moneygram. Totally against eBay rules...

Walk away....

Someone could have hijacked her profile. Happened to my Mum, she logged on one day to find that she selling a Nissan 350Z

Hasn't there been a run of dodgy high end camera selling on ebay? I wouldn't like to say this was one such event but I wouldn't want to risk over £1000 finding out.

I don't think I'd want to buy any high end electronic goods on Ebay unless I knew it was a reputable seller, or was a respected person on a forum I frequent who was using Ebay as the selling channel.

Too many risks involved.

Andrew thats the way I'm thinking now. I think I may wait and get a new camera from someone like Kerso. Ebay is always a risk. Although, I have bought quite a bit with no problems, but no cameras for £1200.
Cheers, Mark.

there's a clue in the advert. The link to photos is by a guy in America. A quick google on his name takes you to dpreview where he's located in America. None of that actually proves he's not selling it although there is a user with his name on ebay already who has sold a 1DS MkII.

Enough to walk away I think.

Cheers Dod, hadn't noticed that. A lesson to learn from this I reckon. I think I will wait a few months and get the 1D MkIII now for peace of mind and forget about ebay.
Thanks again, Mark

Look at the other items the seller has auctioned. All low value and non-related. Looks like a scam to gain 100% rating before the big sting.

Especially considering that all (7) of the previous transactions by the woman are for very low price items, none of which are to do with a camera.. :)

It just screams out scam. :)

EDIT: Just beaten by gman :D

hehe, great minds think alike ;)

hi there
for me...if they dont take a postal order i leave it.i feel safe using them as you get a recept for each one and if they say it hasent arived i can report it stolen.
but a postal order of that size would costa fortune.
for 1200 quid i would have go for a pick up.

Well i'm in Colchester, tell them i'll collect it for you and pay cash on collection :) I would be amazed if they said yes, the grammar and spelling in that add gives a bit of a hint imo.

Thanks again, this incident has put me off ebay for a bit. I know it works okay most of the time but its knocked my confidence a bit. I will wait and buy new I reckon.
Mark.

Don't forget to report it to Ebay they can put a block on the account.....You may save someone a lot of grief and a lot of money. ;)

Yeah I've done that. They are investigating the matter, or so they say. Could I just ask what needs to be done to totally cancel the transaction, as on my ebay account page it says I still need to pay for it?

I think the seller narmally does this but I'm sure Ebay would take care of it for you if you point it out to them.

thats sounds well dodgy BUT they may be realling at the potential charges expected from both Ebay and paypal both are greedy *******s and take a large sum of your earnings.

That said i would insist on paying via paypal OR tell them to shove it and if they get the arse make sure you let them leave feedback first.

Well its back up for sale again, Item number 330236127436
