Ebay/PayPal thieving bunch of *****

Can all be done online now, and a week or two later a cheque appears in the post.

Good to know, RM have been very good with my parcels in the last few years, haven't needed to make use of their compensation scheme in that time ;).

paypal favours the buyer even outside of ebay

my son wrote a program for a business in america and charged accordingly for it. the company he wrote the program for was very happy with the work and said as much in corresponding emails.
a few weeks later the company wanted the source code to the program which was not part of the original agreement, my son refused to hand it over so the company put a dispute in with paypal ( money for the program was paid through paypal ) stating goods not received

as we know the goods was a file sent via the internet so no proof of postage existed apart from the correspondence between my son and the company.
my son explained to paypal it was a bespoke item namely a program which had been received and used he also sent all correspondence that had taken place before and after the transaction.

paypal does not cover bespoke goods such as programs, especially programs written and customised for a particular client but they found in favour of the client anyway
to say my son was displeased is definitely an understatement
the worst part is there is nothing he could say or do to change paypals mind he just lost

Haven't used eBay as a seller for years now. To many scammers and idiots encouraged by eBay and defended PayPal.

millions of happy customers worldwide though, I've bought and sold items on ebay since it started, ebay is the reason used camera gear is at such a high price, what did you do with it before, PXd it for buttons or put an ad in the paper.

Ebay and paypal have created a global marketplace , as with any marketplace there are dishonest people but they're in a minority

I can remember one moron about 15 years ago, one of my first purchases was a gamecube game, didn't get it, asked for proof of posting , this was in the days when the PO gave you a card with hand written addresses on and a date stamp
He sent me a copy of the card with my address on the end in different handwriting plus the date stamp was the day before I'd won the auction.

Agreed, and if you follow the various PayPal/eBay rules to the letter it's a lot safer than the posters just before you think.

It's usually the users who don't describe the item properly, don't package it properly, try and do something that contravenes PayPal or eBay rules or use an unacceptable postage method who invariably have a problem then rant and rave about how eBay or Paypal always takes the buyers side.

There are millions of sellers out there who somehow manage to use eBay without issues and have probably been doing so since the early 2000's.
