Ebay Help:

I'm not sure if I was ok to make this thread as part of the rules but had no where else to ask.

Basically, I listed some items for sale on ebay and on three of the listings I put in my paypal ID wrong (missed out one letter in the name!)

On the check out thing, it says two have paid but I haven't received the payment on my paypal as obviously it was the wrong ID.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I did email them with the right ID but they say they don't know how to send it to this. What happens if I just relist the item, can they still leave bad feedback and if they give me bad feedback will I get my account closed? Also will I then be expected to refund as I haven't even received the payment to refund!

If you mean you listed the wrong paypal email address, can you add the 'wrong' address to your paypal account ... obviously if you own it or can get it. For example if you put 123@mydomain.com when you should have put 456@mydomain.com can you add the email address?

Yeah I put the email address wrong in the actual ebay listing but didn't notice until the auction ended then it wouldn't allow me to change it.

How do I add the wrong ID to my paypal account? Do you mean create a whole new paypal with the wrong ID? And will that still work as its saying they have paid on ebay, which is what I don't get as surely the payment wouldn't have gone through since the ID was wrong.

Thanks for your response.

Contact paypal / eBay asap

Yeah I did email ebay but they just replied with an automated email on listing fees rather then what to do in this case. I will have to call them tomorrow I think. Hopefully I won't have to refund :(

Stupidity not checking the email :bonk: but new to selling!

Thanks for your response :)

You can have a number of email addresses linked to your existing Paypal account so if you can get/setup the email address that you incorrectly used on eBay adding it to your Paypal account will get the payments automatically.
Their payments are just in 'limbo' waiting for the email address to pay to.

So for example if the wrong email you used was wrongname@gmail.com register that name with Gmail and then add it to your Paypal account.

I wouldn't relist it until you have sorted this, look at it from the buyers side, as far as they think they have won a item and paid for it by sending payment to the address you quoted, so as it stands you have legal obligation to sell it to the winner.
What i don't understand is how you can refund the payment when you personally haven't received it. When you say you put the wrong address in the listing do you mean you typed it out in the item description for anyone who looked at the item page to see?

If you want to add another email address just go to profile, last tab on the second row of options as you look at the page, click update in there and you can add secondary email address

Just wondering how you didn't notice it was wrong when you went through the verification process to link your paypal email/account to your eBay account?

And thinking on that how did you manage to even verify it if it was wrong?

Something sure doesn't seem right here

Thanks for all your replies! Think i'm just going to have to take the plunge and ring ebay/paypal tomorrow. Hopefully they can tell me how to sort it out. It's just like me to make such a rookie error!

I'm pretty sure that with paypal you can only actually refund an inbound payment when it has showed up as a credit on your own paypal account.

Yeah even though the checkout baskets on ebay say they have paid on paypal in my actual paypal account it doesn't show, so I wouldn't be able to refund them. I guess I could click refund on the ebay check out but I doubt it would work as I presume that ID is invalid. I'm just hoping someone else hasn't got a paypal account with that ID! I think that's very unlikely though. One buyer contacted me at first and said the ID was showing as wrong, but none of the others have got this!

Yeah I can understand where they are coming from. It's just annoying as I don't know what i'm doing and they are messaging me saying they don't know how to do it either.

When you go to list an item, when it came to the part 'decide how to be paid' it had a section for your email address. My paypal ID I normally pay with (I only have one paypal ID) was not automatically put in & I had to manually type it, and being an idiot, multitasking, I made an error but it didn't say it's not valid.

Do you mean profile on ebay or on paypal?

My paypal ID is my o2 internet account email. So the wrong ID I typed into ebay is also o2 so i'm not sure if I can create another one.

I imagine it's best I just call them, like another poster put. Should of done it straight away but hoped the buyers would know what to do when I mailed them with the right ID.

Basically, I set up my ebay account and have been buying various items on it and paying via paypal each time.

Decided to start selling. I didn't verify my account, just presumed as I had brought items and since my paypal was already linked that's all I had to do.
I then listed each item, but had to type where I wanted my payment sent to manually. I made the error of missing out one letter from my email ID.

I then noticed just before the listings ended but it wouldn't allow me to edit the payment email (presumably because the listing was ending soon).

So my friend said email all the buyers with the right ID email and that should be it. Four of them responded to my messages and paid and these payments came through so I sent them items out and got good feedback back. These four payments show on my paypal account. The other three payments I haven't received so don't show up even though on Ebay the checkout basket shows.

I mean on paypal, it might work, if you want to see if that other ID is taken try and type it here and see if feedback comes up, try it on your own user name first to see if this URL is correct if you want.

http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid= USERNAMEHERE &ftab=AllFeedback

Also if you used the wrong email address you could also try sending a email to that email address and see if it comes back undelivered, that might tell if you if its taken by someone else or not
