ebay help - new rules for a private seller

So what if the buyer never left feedback or send you poor or neturel feed back...would you still get your money ? I've now found that second hand camera shops are cheaper than ebay anyways.

that is my main problem. I need to trust the buyer. I think what happens is - if he doesn't leave a positive feedback in 21days I go for a dispute. If he leaves a neg/neutral feedback I go to dispute.

I wish someone had've bought the camera here instead of 'bay ! :(

try contacting the buyer. Suggest you refund the paypal and get them to pay by BT.

Then put in a search for items costing 1p (with free post) finishing soonest and buy any old rubbish for 1p, ideally from Hong Kong, China etc. Pay for the item and get you positive feedback upto 100.

Not totally what feedback is supposed to be about ....................

thanks !

It's just silly I would need to do that, the 100 feedback.

other thing - I just don't know how to open the conversation with him, by offering him BT etc.

Buyer feedback doesn't count as a Buyer can only ever get positive feedback. Its the seller feedback that is important, especially DSRs.

I've just had a guy email me through Ebay asking for a postage discount, when I told him the charge was what it actually cost me to ship the item his response was "well, I'll just buy it and leave you negative feedback then"

In a case like that you tell him to do what he wishes.

His fatal mistake was to mail you through ebay as each message now has its very own reference number and threatening neg feedback is against the feedback abuse policy and will be removed upon request.

Once sorted, make him a blocked bidder then email him outside of ebay and call him a ****.

I got that very same email from paypal , funds will be released etc after 21days , but as soon as the buyer got the items and left pos feedback money was in my acc, but as for paypal fees and ebay fees they are a totall rip off , i wont use them again , plenty sites now offering free adds with pics .

I disagree. Ebay and paypal fees combined for normal listings are about 15%. I'd call that a small price to pay for global coverage.

The reason for the 21 day hold is that the few have spoiled it for the many.

I just blocked him before he could make the purchase, seemed the easiest thing to do

Why should honest sellers pay for Ebay failing to block obvious scammers (ref: EportUK last years)?

Ebay do not police their auctions. They still allow blatant feedback selling rings.

Ebay have made Ebay what is it.

The 21 day hold is to protect Paypal.. not a buyer (who has no idea his payment is held)

Honest sellers pay for all retailers failings. Who do you think covers shoplifting losses in a normal store?

You are right about ebay not policing their listings, it is only when listings are reported that action is taken.

I don't believe that ebay can be blamed for scammers taking advantage of easy targets.

The 21 day hold does protect paypal and in doing so allows paypal to offer buyer protection. Ebay has become a more difficult place for sellers in recent years and there are a lot of their 'new' policies that I disagree with.

At the end of the day, no-one is forced to use ebay.

well, now I am ! at least this 21 day BS. I didn't know there was such thing.

Why would he contact eBay dispute?

Because they are there for advice as well as disputes

looks like it's all right !

but yeah, there are a gazillion scams in 'bay ! :(

You can use iconix to verify genuine mails from epay and baypal. I have spotted and reported a couple of scammers using it, but it only works if the mails that are purported to be from ebay really aren't. Its a mail verifier. Worth a look but it won't stop scally sellers advertising stuff they haven't got.

Ebay will get you good exposure for selling, but they are an absolute shambles when something goes wrong. Paypal are worse.

thanks for the advice Stephen ! :)

in the end, all was all right. Sent the camera, talked to the buyer, nice chap.
