Yes
All fleabayers should be receiving a copy of the bumf, below.
S'pose I'll have my account restricted for not playing along
(joke), but that's the loyalty they get for all the hassles over
the years.

FIGHTING FOR YOUR RIGHT TO BUY AND SELL ONLINE -
SIGN OUR PETITION

eBay was built on a simple idea - that we could empower
people by building a global trading platform where
practically anyone could buy or sell practically anything.
But that idea is now under threat from certain brand
owners and manufacturers who are trying to turn back the
clock and block the sale of their products on online
marketplaces and other websites across the EU.

Ultimately, what is at stake is the right of our sellers
to compete fairly in the wider online marketplace,
and the right of our buyers to be able to access the
best possible deals from the widest possible selection
of goods.

Some of these brand owners argue that their objective is
to prevent the sale of counterfeits on eBay. But thanks
to our work with 31,000 other rights owners, only 0.15% of
listings last year were detected or reported as
potentially counterfeit.

The real aim of these brands is to block the sale of all
their products on our site - regardless of whether
such items are new or second-hand, genuine or fake.
It's not just luxury items that are affected, but also
everyday items like children's toys, electronic equipment,
lawnmowers and pushchairs. And if we want to prevent other
brand owners from following suit, we need to act now.

We are therefore calling on European policymakers to
amend EU competition law to stop these unfair trade
practices. But we need your help to persuade them to
take action. If you would like to join our campaign
against online trade barriers, please sign our petition.

Regards,
Your eBay Team

pot, kettle, black springs to mind!

Wonder if there's a counter petition or two for
  • Getting them to back down on zero postage
  • Huge eBay fees
  • Large Paypal fees
  • The fact they refuse to actively try and prevent counterfeit goods being sold

Sadly I do not agree, Brands need their equity and dilution through diversion is very costly, people work hard to build brands - yes to make money but that is what makes the world go round.

It is not just ebay though, some brands do not want to be sold online, they want to be sold through approved distributors, distributors that have standards. I have to say that alot of online traders do nothing to support premium brands and are just out for a fast buck with no back up or guarantees.

That all comes accross like they have mine and your best interests at heart... when we all know the real reason is profit motivated. I aint even in a cynical mood but I aint falling for that hogwash. Ebay are worried about ebay.. not about me and you.

Exactly! :agree:

I am pulled in two directions

1) I don't want the EU to legislate on this, to my mind this would just legalise price fixing and be as anti-competitive as Microsoft's inclusion of IE. I'm all for the brands protecting their brand but price fixing via the back door is wrong.
2) Ebay are really screwing with the small guys and I'm not keen in support them.

and the stupid pillocks took away the ability to leave negative feedback fairly ... now all buyers just love to leave negs without any fear of reprisal ..

EvilBay ... GET STUFFED !

Although I'm kinda forced to use their service (no real viable alternative), and pay handsomely for it, I certainly won't be signing their crap petition... what a joke.

Yep I got that email as well
sign the Petition? I don't think so.

Maybe these "majors" will be starting their own flea-bay alternative ?

Cutting through the scaremongering and the implications that private sellers won't be able to resell items they have bought legitimately, what this really means is that the big sellers, that Ebay has courted for so long, whilst at the same time attempting to drive away the rest of us with ever increasing fees and restrictions, may now seek to sell their goods elsewhere, leaving Ebay themselves desperately seeking somewhere to buy a paddle...

If I was crying over this they'd be crocodile tears. Where was the "trader please sign" petition when EPay decided to pander to the anti-firearms lobby? They can go fiddle.
