Ebay Cactus Triggers?

I'm after a transmitter and a couple of receivers for an SB-600 and an SB-25.

I can't justify the price of Pocket Wizards at the moment. And have heard good things about these triggers.

The question is, are they still the best sort of triggers for the price?

Also I have heard the receivers can trigger each other in close proximity. I Would like to use them for some macro work and so they may be around 30cm's apart at times, will that be ok?
 
Skyports are the middle man and a much better bet!

eBay slaves - Skyports - PW's (Thats the order from bad to best)

I would really avoid them as so many people have had trouble with the eBay's. Save the money and get some Skyports
 
I can't seem to find much info on the skyports? How much are they? Does anyone have a link for them to buy in the UK?

Also has anyone got a link to a decent ebay trader for the V2 cactus triggers?
 
You can get Skyports from the Flash Centre: http://www.theflashcentre.com/skyport-remote-system-c264.html

And probably from plenty of other places. I've got the Cactus cheapos and they work great since I modded them. Every now and again I get the odd random flash or it doesn't fire but before I did the mods it was quite frequent. You won't get that with the skyports.
 
Have you got the V2 Cactus triggers? Can you tell me if the reciever has any sort of fixxing screw, to attach it to a tripod etc?

The Flash Center, Warehouse Express also sell them, although they only sell them with one transmitter and one reciever, or one transmitter and two recievers.

They come with an L shaped sdapter that screws to the reciever, and has a thread at the bottom that will screw onto most tripods.
 
Many thanks, I think the Skyports are still a little expensive for now. I will go with the cheap triggers fro now. Until I get a little more experience etc.

It would be nice to keep the TTL of my CLS system but also fire another slave using the trigger, I could have used an optical trigger for the slave, but I'm guessing Preflashes would cause it to fire?

Is there anyway, I can use the trigger and my cls system?

yes it has a hole for the tripod screw
 
I was not impressed with Buybuyeasy. The gadget to fire my 580Ex remotely from the camera was useless. It just flashes whenever it thinks it will and not when I want to take a picture. Buybuyeasy said on feedback that they were contacting me (I left negative feedback) but they never did and just kept sending the instructions over and over again when I did contact them. Will avoid in future.

If anyone has any (simple) instructions on how to get this to fire correctly I would be grateful.

Is it the V2 you have or V2s. I bought the V2 and it intermittently fires my 580EX II. I have read the V2 is not compatible with 580EX II. Im looking at skyports now...
 
I've ordered the V2's, infact I ordered two kits, which worked out cheaper than

a.) 1 kit with two receivers
b.) 1 kit with one receiver, and then buying a second receiver

Crazy

Hopefully they arrive and work ok.

I guess I will then stick the spare receiver in the for sale section. Maybe for free, we will see how I feel. ;)

It might be worth trying it with the above flash?
 
Sorry that was a typo, it should have said transmitter, *sorry*, have you tried replacing the battery?
 
Any luck with the Cactus remote triggers? I've just chanced my arm and ordered one transmiter and three receivers for £40 including P&P from BuyBuyEasy. Let's hope I'm not just saying an EasyByeBye to my money!

iv got one.. its works.. sort of..

it keeps firing the flash when it feels like it!!! it can get quite bad!!!

Its good when it works ***.. Good luck...
 
Change the channel. MIne doesn't misfire and no "missed fire" when the dip switches are aligned to NO. 1 & 2. I dont know what channel that is.
I use 3 flashes: Canon 580EX II, Sigma EF 500 ST, and a Sunpak 888AFZ.
Im just waiting for another set which should be in next week.
 
Out of interest, how long did they take to come? I'm waiting for mine before arranging a model shoot.

It was mailed from HK last friday, it came yesterday friday, so its a week. Its the same with my first order. The packet was labelled as GIFT and cost as $10.:thinking:

I was expecting for the delivery next week but to my surprise it arrived yesterday!
 
Brilliant, thanks for that, sounds like a good fast turn around. Hopefully I'll get them in time to play with them next weekend then.
