Yes
I'm not a prolific eBay user but now have an item that will have to be collection only due to the weight (approx 75kg). I'm aware that it needs to be cash on collection to avoid being scammed but I don't think I'm allowed to not offer PayPal ? So from the collective experience how should I best go about this.

All advice much appreciated

My advice is to not sell it on a collection only basis, it will dramatically reduce the amount of interest, the number of bids and the amount you get for it.
There are plenty of carriers who will deliver it for you on a pallet, the normal charge for this is just under £50 with GB, Scottish highlands and islands cost more.

But if you really want to do it that way, I believe that you can require them to pay a small depost via paypal and the balance on collection, in cash.

In the past I've made them provide two forms of ID that I take a photocopy of, and make them sign a "delivery" receipt.

Never encountered an issue with genuine buyers as they know the score. And if they don't want to do that then the alternative is cash.

Unless I'm missing something , why can't they pay by PayPal then collect the item ??? Is that not what would normally happen but they are collecting rather than you taking it to the post office .

They could file a none delivery claim and get the money back if you can't proof delivery.

Thanks for that - presumably the courier provides the pallet on collection ?

Ahhhhh ok fair enough , could you not get them to leave positive feedback on collection and testing of the product maybe ?

In the past and early days of Ebay I would have done exactly that. And in my limited experience it would be fine with most, but better be safe than sorry as there are too many stories of PayPal siding with the buyers and unfortunately a fair amount of people trying it on these days.

Depending on the value of the item it may be worth the risk.

No, you have to palletise it for them, they just transport for you

And there'll possibly be the issue of loading it in the vehicle at 75kg.

True, but it won't be hard to get hold of a pallet. We get them all the time, with inbound deliveries, and always have a few to give away. Not long ago we put an ad on Gumtree to give away 50 or so, not enough to sell and too many to get in the way. Just ask around at any factory or warehouse.

It's not just the pallet though, it's palletisation. Wrapping. Securing.

I've heard this before. But really, how hard is it to prove delivery? Photograph the recipient's ID, photograph the recipient with the item, photograph the item in the recipient's van, job done. It's no reason to shy away from PayPal.

The arsewipes that annoy me are the ones that don't leave feedback at all ,so you have to hang on to proof of delivery notes for ages .just so annoying

30 days isn't it?
Not that long.

Which is exactly the advice I gave up in this thread ;)

Because PayPal don't employ people with common sense. If you can't provide a proof of delivery via a track able delivery service you don't stand a chance, no matter what you provide them.
