Yes
I am facing an operation at some stage before too long (depends on NHS waiting lists etc) which may see me unable to walk for some months, and in a toe to hip plaster cast for several months from what I gather. As a builder, it is not going to be easy for me to work, so I need to be getting ideas of how to earn while growing a fatter belly and even skinnier legs. I have only very basic computer skills, live in the middle of nowhere, and aside from trying to make time to write my life story (not going to be a big seller I can assure you)I have no ideas of where to look or what the options are.
Anyone got any ideas ??

Nothing leaps to mind right off.

I will set aside a brain cell to mull it over though. A far more generous offer than it seems I can tell you. ;)

Depending on the season:

scarecrow ?
display manikin ?

:D

You mentioned writing. Freelance? not sure how you might acquire projects, there are freelance websites.

Maybe a good time to really get to grip with Photoshop? Better half has made some good money retouching old/damaged photos (old tears, stains etc). Or learn how to build websites, put together a summary of the natural light course you did with CJ? Sorry none of these make money I realise, but may keep mind & soul together whilst body repairs itself? Also more strings to the bow for when you recover - if you can't make money short term you could make more money long term?
Hope the op & recovery goes well - if I think of anything specific I'll let you know.

crikey sounds gruesome
if you are prepared to go public - what on earth needs so much plaster?

Why not take your camara and look out of your back window and see if there are any murderers or ballet dancers or little dogs in baskets.

I'll tell you what ... :suspect: ... I'm alright with the computer ... and I work from home mostly ... sitting in front of the damn thing ... ... why don't we swap where you come over here and do my job sitting and staring at the screen and I'll just brace myself to pop over and take your place in sunny Spain for the next several months or more ... ... I know it'll be hard for me but I'll put up with it ... ;)

Got any better ideas ... :suspect:

I doubt it ... :D

:p

Setup a website to sell advertising space on the cast

I told you a while back....get to 50 and it's all down hill

Steve...are you bilingual enough to take on document translation?

Bob

What about putting photos onto canvass for people?

Sorry not to respond sooner - I went out, and was busy getting plastered...!
OK, thanks for all the suggestions -
Ajophotog - still life model - maybe still alive model might be better..
Oldgit - scarecrow - have you seen what I look like ?
mmcp42 - I am having my ankle fused or replaced - fusing involves a hefty bone graft from the hip, and total immobilisation of the ankle till the graft forms a solid bone round the ankle. I may also need some vertibrae fused as well, though am still gathering the exciting news on that one..
Talisman - plant container - huh - I'll be weedy enough when the thing comes off !
tiler65 - the view from our back window.

Not many murders going on there - in fact, nothing bar the almond blossom and a few mountains for many miles.
pxl8 - splendid idea - want a space ?
F-stop - what is farming monetary units - does it grow on trees - we have them !
Canon-Bob - good idea, but my Spanish is not good enough, though I can swear pretty well in Spanish, and didn't need to look up how to spell cojones (see another thread here)
Glitter - LeeP at TogsPrint does that so much better than me.
Wandering Mind and Phil T - Good - I may try writing, and do need to learn photoshop - might even buy it, but are you implying that I am rubbish at it now in any way...??
Venomater - PM sent - I assume you'll do the operation bit as well...?
Any more ideas..?

ouch Steve, that sounds painful
speedy recovery matey

That most definitely was NOT the deal Steve ... :suspect: ... sounds like it might hurt a little and me 'n pain don't mix I'm afraid ... ;)

Anyway ... don't be a wuss ... :D

:p

As per my first resopnse, you have never seen 'Rear Window' by Alfred Hitchcock.

I suggest you get it out on dvd and watch it while you are bored in plaster then you might have a different 'view' out of your back window.

By the way Grace Kelly was stunning.

(shame she never taught her daughter to drive on the right side of the road)

:naughty:

My first thought was to do a bit of consultation with potential british buyers of property out there. Knowing the trade and all that. But by the sounds of it you are not going to be very mobile so it sort of knocks that one out. Are you a self employed builder or work for a company??

MG TF 135,
I am self employed, but out here where we are there is little work, and what there is is poorly paid and there are lots of people fighting for any work. I won't be able to drive and will be on crutches for many months. We are 10 mins drive to the village, 40 mins to the beach (ie where there might be work of sorts) and no public pransport. Guess I really need some sort of computer based work or something similar. I will try to use some of the time to learn more Spanish, get more skilled on the computer, try writing articles etc, but none of these will feed the kids, and we have no savings of any sort !
Anyone know how to beat the lottery system ?

Probably not a lot of money but there are websites that pay to do online surveys - think about £5 a time, tho not sure exacty. But hey if you can do plenty of em.

Also think there is a way of getting paid for doing reviews.

had a quick Google and found.

Seems like the PC is gonna be your way of earning. Dont know if you have a website, but can earn money through selling advertising space on it.

Lastly I know this sounds daft. But Id enter as many online competitions as possible, think of a slogan, random draw etc.
There are some people who do this full time. You have nothing to lose, have the time, and could win cash, or stuff to sell.

http://www.ukcompetitions.com/cash-vouchers.html

One thing id do though if you do any of this. Set up a new email account for all of this, as you dont want your regular email account filling up with all this type of stuff, and bound to attract a fair amount of spam.

Edited to say, it goes without saying don't join up to anything which asks for cash upfront from yourself.

Rocket Dog.
Splendid idea, and thanks for the links - I will take a look at them shortly !
It would be nice to win something, whatever it might be, so competitions have got to be worth a go. Nothing daft in that !
Cheers !
