Got woken up this morning at 6.45am, by something that sounded like a power saw. Put my clothes on and took the dog out to have a look, it was somebody cutting either a bit of stone/brick or metal, could not really make out what it was. But he was using one of those big orange stone or paving cutting machines, and it made one hell of a noise. He was wearing yellow jacket and hard hat, and in a plain white van. So not sure if it was private or council.

We do get a lot of noise around here first thing in the morning, but it's usually about 7am/7.30am and this is the bins being emptied. The glass bins make a hell of a noise, all that glass being tipped into the wagon. Just wondering, what is the earliest people can start making a lot of noise?

Guy with the stihl saw is out of order, personally I would have questioned him why the hell is he making a noise at that time of the day....

Weighed up the situation I was with my dog who was scared of the loud noise, I was bleary eyed and still half asleep. The guy making all the noise looked like a real bruiser, he was massive and looked like he would smash your face in if you looked at him wrong, plus he had a cutting machine in his hand. At least I found out where all the noise was coming from, and it continued for about another five minutes then stopped.

Good job as well, otherwise I would have been right back around and ready for him, as by then I would have had my Weetabix ;)

Photos? Always good to take photos

I only had my phone with me, and I did not fancy getting close for a meaningful photo. At times you know when you can and can't take a photo, and that was not the time for a close up phone photo.

I got woken an hour ago by someone furiously bashing away at his keyboard!

Can they not get "done" for it at that time of the morning. I thought there were restrictions between 11pm and 7am.

6.45 am !!! Blimey that's a lie in for me most days :p

I'd contact the council. Did you make a note of the van's reg?

I think on weekends they have to be quiet until 8 am or even 9am unless it is an emergency type repair a repair from a utility company.

Have done in the past but nobody gets back to you, Council/ Police don't really seem interested any more. They have far more important things to deal with, than peoples sleep being disturbed. That's what we were told recently.

Council/police are being thick because someone turning up in an unmarked van with such tools could easily be there to steal things so if you discourage residents from noticing and reporting you miss out on potential leads for such thefts or fly tipping etc!

That's why I always go out to investigate, as a lot of my neighbours are in the vulnerable category.

Yep probably an early morning metal thief.

I had a look before and I think it's a post/pole that's been fitted, so it looks like it may have been the council after all, or a contractor for the council.

Too right. Issue with parking in our street. Neither is bothered.
