early morning light beams and spiders webs

ok its that time of the year again where I think we start to see the best light but im never sure how to expose my shots correctly.

so this is a two parter

whats the best way to photograph spiders webs when they have the early morning dew on them?

To be honest I take the shot, check it on the lcd and dial in compensation if it looked like it needed it.

As for the spiders webs - I'd use a little fill flash and shoot with the light from the sun behind if possible.

I agree with the trial and error. To begin take a basic meter reading but bracket +/- 1 stop to see if it helps.

Light beams sometimes show up better with a polarising filter. A bit of subtle post processing can help them stand out (e.g. reduce darks (in Lightroom), play with contrast a bit).

With spider webs look very carefully through the viewfinder as even the few cm difference between what you saw originally with your eye and where the lens is can make a big difference to catching the sparkle on the drops. I often find myself doing alternate knees bends & leg stretches to find the brightest spot that first caught my eye!
