Hi All,

OH and I are giving up smoking (again) on 9th Jan and I am looking to get an E-Cig this time to help me out. I have used the patches before which worked to an extent but we both ended up relapsing on holiday while having a few drinks and it just spiralled from there. I think I need something to reach for when the will power abandons me. I have been looking at the different options on Amazon and am really not sure which to go for - can anyone give any first hand recomendations?

Thanks,
Fi

Hi, I used one to give up smoking and to use in the pub etc. and it was brilliant! Really felt like a real cigarette - both in your hand and whilst smoking it. I thought the vapour was very similar to that of smoke from a normal fag. I bought mine from a company called "theecigarettecompany" on ebay. The refills come in different strengths (and flavours - I used to smoke menthol), and the pack I bought came with a variety so you can cut down. Mine wasn't a particularly expensive one, it was about £20 (with refills) I think.. but well worth it! I'm soon coming up to a year without smoking!

Good luck with it!

i gave up 15 months ago and used small bowls of grapes and cherry tomatoes.. to help with the cravings the main aid was the tablets from the doctor.

Thanks - I've bitten the bullet and ordered a relatively cheap one to see how I get on. If it doesn't work out I will just go back to the patches I suppose...

Well done - I've given up cold turkey once and on the patches once... neither have lasted though and I think the E-Cigs might be the way to go.

You can also get them from your doctor on prescription or your local NHS stop smoking centre. Cheaper than buying them yourself.

Don't use the patches . . . . They taste orrible :D

I can't advocate the use of patches, ecigs, pills or potions, you just end up being addicted to something else.
The very best way is to just man up and cold turkey, its tough but quick and looking back on it now, very very easy.
The easiest £2500 rise I've ever earn't..

buy that book, it will be the best money you ever spend if you are trying to give up imo

Thanks - I'll definately take a look at that

Well that's great for you but different things work for different people - I gave up cold turkey for a year and then started again. At the moment I feel like I need a crutch and if I am swapping smoking for a more healthy dependency then I'm fine with that.

Best way to give up? Catch the flu bug that hit me on Xmas Day. My lungs are so bad I couldn't even inhale one of them fake fags. Been 8 days since I've smoked anything and I'm getting by on onew piece of gum per day. Not bad afer 40 years of 20 a day.

I gave up 3 and a half years ago when they bought the public smoking ban in. I used the chewing gum which worked for me, have you considered that? I can't remember which one I used, one tastes reasonable, the other fairly disgusting!

Good luck :)

OK. My name is Martyn, and I'm a smoker................

I know a couple of people who went to Allen Carr seminars and found that it worked for them, for a while anyway. I've read the book, and it's interesting, but there's nothing radical in it IMHO. I've also tried patches, gum and Zyban, unsuccessfully.

I've, more or less, accepted that I don't really want to stop, although I would like to be a non smoker. I know that's contradictory, but addictive drugs do that to you.

Has anyone tried hypnotism/hypnotherapy? I believe that's how Carr managed to stop, before he wrote his book.
