sold a lens on e/bay the other day ,first item since they have changed payment systems , posted yesterday the buyer had the lens this morning .. im still waiting for the funds to appear in my bank .. and although It should be a smooth experience It now feels rather like letting the buyer have the goods before your paid ...
I used to deal/sell a lot to items on there I dont think thats going to happen again ,whatever induced them to drop PayPal even it was costlier

Might be worth checking with eBay where the payment is.

I recently bought a phone of eBay and although money had left my account they were not showing in the seller account. I contacted eBay to find out why the seller did not have the payment and they asked me to get the seller to contact them.

After contacting them, seller had the money within minutes and he confirmed receipt.
 
It takes about 2 days for you to get the money (not counting weekends). That isn't too bad tbh.
I am happy to see PayPal go even if I have to wait two full working days to get my money.
 
I’ve sold £2500 worth on eBay in the last week. I’ve only just got the payment through for 2 items which sold last Tuesday. Just how it is, you’ll get the money soon.

And it’s actually more expensive now. Something like 12% of the sale cost now goes to eBay, unless you use their occasional special offers like thank Christ I did. Only £2 per listing rather than the £100 or so it would have been for just one of the rather expensive lenses I just sold.
 
This one was on a special , perhaps I’m the odd one out that preferred PayPal
 
Make that three :)

I won't be selling on eBay again unless they change the rules back to what they were. There are plenty of other places to sell goods, several of which don't have charges.

I have heard far too many PayPal related "scams" stories where buyers have invoked them after many months and returned broken goods or just used someone as a free rental service etc.
All this is gone thanks to ebay getting rid of PayPal. once the 14 days are over you are in the clear. So as far as I am concerned good riddance.
 
Sold a Bronica Film Back on Ebay last week. My first use since the new payment system was put in place.
Payment arrived within 2 days but fee deduction was 13.7%.
 
Although interest rates aren't exactly good at the moment, I can't help wondering how much ebay make from holding on to transaction funds.

I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulty registering one handset. We have used them for about eight years without issue, They were both working fine right up to last Thursday when we installed big button phones. Perhaps something happened in the post?
If you give me an email address, I'll send you a pre-paid postage label and you can return them to me.
I must apologise for the time you have wasted on this.

Thank you for your prompt response Jim - I will only return the one that is not working. The other one registered immediately. These are some of the best phones BT sold. We have used them for about the same time as you.
I will return everything except the working handset, if that is ok with you.

Not sure you understand, these are a matched pair and sold as a 2 phone set so if you wish to return, I'd rather it was both handsets.

I can assure you that one of the ones you sent
suffers the same fault as the one I am replacing. However, as I now have one of them working - and my four way set is now functioning, if you are not going to let me return the defective one, I will swallow my pride and take the (expensive) hit. At least I now have four working handsets. As with yourself, I have an unblemished record and would not wish to get into an prolonged debate over £20.

I don't sell on fleabay, but I do buy the odd few bits now and again.
I've used PP up to and including last week end.

I've noticed the odd seller not accepting PP and want a CC payment.
So far they seem to be in the minority, I tend to avoid these where possible.
PP is much faster and over many years I've had maybe 2 or 3 disputes.
And each time they saw sense and realised the seller was trying it on.

But if you can pay by paypal doesnt that mean you get paid by paypal? So if I use paypal to buy somehting from you does it go through another system before it gets to you ?

I am a buyer not a seller so ... :)

Nope I get paid by eBay. You pay eBay with PayPal.
Previously there was a agreement between the buyers and sellers PayPal accounts. Now that is not the case since your PayPal account has no idea who it is paying. It's just paying eBay.

Well that all sounds rather unnecessarily confusing.
No wonder some buyers are asking for CC payment, and not accepting PP.
But as above I'll stick to sellers that do accept PP

When was the last time you bought on ebay.
as far as I understand a seller doesn't care anymore i.e. as a seller I do not specify how a buyer pays, its all down to ebay.
As a buyer I have to pay with whatever means ebay will accept (at the moment they accept PayPal), the seller has no say in it.
ebay is the one dealing with payments on both sides. you pay ebay not the seller anymore (unlike their previous arrangement with PayPal where you paid the seller directly to their paypal) and ebay pays the seller in turn minus their fees.
So no more PayPal scamming.

Paypal scams was one of the main reasons I didn't like selling on ebay especially for higher price items.
Now I have no issues selling anything on there, ebay while still on buyer's side are slightly more reasonable to deal with than PayPal by sounds of it.
Just need to wait for final fee offers ;)

There was a report many years back of an account manager at BP who seeing that money was simply left in accounts but calculated that if the money was put into overnight deposits as the various global banking markets opened & closed it would be worthwhile doing so.

Apparently when he made the case to do so he was told not worth it so why bother. The story as I recall was that he said to the top brass, ok I will give up my salary(and perks?) if I can have the overnight deposits monies as my salary........it amounted to something in excess of £1M. Suffice to say they declined the offer and ever since have moved money around as needed

No doubt all the big corporations do the same to a lesser or greater degree???

Now been paid ,so that’s done . I tended to sell quite a few low priced items ,but they all added after a while to a nice PayPal balance that bought large items .. now it just goes into one general bank account and gets lost .. PayPal was like a savings account

Some sellers, the PP option is just not there. I assume(d) that was an option at the point of listing.

that your statement / claim is true.
And giving the seller a couple ( IIRC) of weeks to counter claim with evidence.

you can open a separate bank account and link it to ebay if you like.
One of the online/mobile only banks like starling or monzo will have you sorted in a matter of minutes.

I don't know if business sellers have a separate thing to turn off PayPal or if they have different setup but for private sellers. May be ebay has PayPal for specific type of items/sellers and they don't for others?
I personally cannot see an option to specify or control payment options for buyers.
Rightly so too since I shouldn't need to care how you go about paying ebay, you can pay them milk bottle caps for all I care. I get paid by ebay.

Once again as a seller if you want to claim via. PayPal you are dealing with PayPal and ebay. not me directly. So when you buy my lens for the summer use it across the world on safaris and hike to Mt. Everest, you can't return it back to me after 5 months saying "its not as described" or even worst try claim the money back saying "you never got it" because you dropped it from the top of Mt Everest :ROFLMAO:

I know that, all I was saying its not that easy any more as has been reported many times in the past
when scamming was a real profession for many buyers.
But ultimately you as a seller would paid if found to be at fault.

the current system is fair enough from both sides IMO.
you have 14 days to make sure the item is as described and fully working.
If you were to buy a used item from a shop you have 14 days to return. you can't come back after 5 months and claim its broken for a refund.
Of course many shops offer warranty on used items and you have to pay slightly more money for that than you would in a private sale.

I used to work for a firm that did exactly that. We reinvoiced for a large multinational. We'd invoice the buyer in one currency and pay the supplier in another currency, taking a small commission for our trouble. We swapped money on currency markets and held onto it for 30 days since we got credit from the suppliers and used the time to wait for a good rate.

One day we got a more aggressive MD who let the FX guys play with the money for 30 days. That year, we made more money than many other parts of the company. Per capita we were the highest earning team in the world.

Then the euro spoiled all our fun.

I'm not really making an excuse for getting it wrong by saying I posted the article at almost 11.00pm.. KIPAX posted the next morning..but it's a detailed read at that time..I'm a morning person :) Also, bear in mind the now, obviously ,misleading headline. It's in bold print.

This is why eBay is dropping PayPal as their payments provider​
