was wondering has anyone bought any of those cheap 600mm or so lenses of ebay Item number: 220377727555 and if so are they any good .

I bought one - really good to hold up my desk, I would recommend!

Joking of course, don't bother with them, there's a reason why they are so cheap.

thanks i will save up and buy a proper lens

Did any of you actually look at the item for sale before replying? It's a used Tamron 300 up for auction at a used lens price. A respected brand and no different to hundreds of other Tamron lenses for sale that have served people well for many years.

Ere, Ere!! Looks ok to me for that kinda price!!

Of course you will have to get an adapter to fit your Canon. With AF confirm around 16-20 quid, without 3-15 quid. You have to use Av or manual settings. No problem though, I started doing this a few weeks ago and the method is teaching me a lot!!

i brought a cheap old paragon 500mm F8 a while back... cost about 40 pounds... and it was well worth it, brought it simply to take shots of the moon... and have had some great results, ofcourse not as good as some thousand pound lens, but well im never gonna be able to afford that, :) well worth 40 pounds,

With the exception of the kit lens which came with my camera, all my lenses are used - and from film slr cameras, using an adapter to mount them on my camera.
Photography is a hobby for me, and unfortunately there is no way I could justify hundreds (or thousands) of pounds for lenses which are way better than my ability. So far I have collected 80-200mm f2.8; 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.8 - all three for under £73, and one even came with a free camera.
If my skill level ever improves enough to justify better lenses then furry muff, but until then I will continue with these used lenses.

Same here, bought virtually everything secondhand, mainly ebay and now on here.

40D and EF 100-400 on ebay, EF-S 17-85 on ebay later sold on here, replaced by EF-S 17-55 f2.8 from here and now bought a EF 70-200 f4L on here.

thanks for all the replies i have to say i can,t afford the quality lenses and i suppose while i am new and learning it may not be a major problem i am also aware a lot of rubbish is sold on ebay , but many thanks to all your replies .

You CAN afford quality lenses! Get some m42 screw lenses and an adapter for your Canon! Just put the switch to 'M' and shoot away. it's the cheapest way to get some top quality glass on the front of your camera.

Just seen this on TP LINK

I'd rather have that lens than one of those nasty Opteka 600/1200mm Ebay specials, even so most modern "cheap" lenses will be optically superior to that Tamron.

Lots of bargains to be had on ebay. I got myself a 24-70L for £500 and a nifty fifty for £48 a few months back.

I saw a 70-200 2.8 IS for £900 the other night but couldn't justify it, as I already have the f4.0 non-IS version.... which I got for £100 ;)

The only thing I'm after now is a Canon 10-22 or Sigma 10-20 dirt cheap. As soon as I've got one of those I'll let everyone know about my secret technique ;)
