Dynax

Gadgets are fun. How useful they are depends how easy it access the function compared to performing the same trick by another method. Most of the time they're just another layer of can-do technology, a solution looking for a problem, something for jaded development bods to differentiate their model from the next.

The last ten years of film camera technology became pretty self indulgent from most manufacturers. Using a late 70s AV-1 has been quite refreshing, not to say quick, because it's a simple aperture priority camera with just sufficient override to perform the necessary options in analogue form.

Arthur - you have just put into words exactly why I love my EOS-3. Only problem being, it uses current lenses, so there's no bargains there. But it really does work very nicely with the modern L lenses, so I guess that should be where my gear addiction money should go :shrug: Okay - it's a mainstream name, but as you've said - I can't honestly remember ever being asked why I'm still shooting film - I think that people just glance at it and assume it's a 5D.

Thats a feature which I find very useful in the Contax bodies - and its done with a flick of a switch.

Yes, and from the camera controls not the menu system. Check the pic, left of the screen is focus controls (matrix, point etc. and lock) and above is the AE control. Also central button on the AE control is the temp focus lock as well - once for lock, once again for release. Very nice system to use.
 
ah great. Just saw a Dynax 5 with 28-105 lens for 100 quids in a local camera shop. Hows that for price - bargain, market price or way over the top?

PS : I'll post the 120 jobbie sometimes this week.
 
Way over the top mate, £50 *tops* for that, £40 maybe with the standard 35-80 - I paid £30 for mine.
 
right, do you know the key additional features in 7 and 9 over 5? If not, I'll have to go thru the spec of each and list....
 
Toughie, like EOS 5, EOS 3, EOS 1v I guess. If you're serious go for a 7, otherwise look at the 9000 maybe.

PS - I paid only £135 for the 5D kit complete boxed with lens and everything else... :naughty:

Yup - unless there's a run on them, I have seen them reach £200. There's a £150 BIN up now, has been for some time though... quiet Minolta time! One with no internal VF display went for £45 this week.
 
do you have a fast minolta glass arthur ( or anybody else?) I want to borrow it for a few days - i'll put up a deposit to cover the full cost of the glass. Just wanted to see how the glasses are before making a big time committment
 
Not needed it so far Ujjwal to be honest, I have the Hexanon and Minolta 50mm f/1.4's for the Autoreflex and the X700 but nothing so far for the Dynax's I'm afraid.
 
AF Minolta primes are rare birds on ebay, fast primes are hen's dentures. The only ones I notice are independents and not many of those. Dunno why.
 
What he said I'm afraid, I'm happy to push things a bit rather than hoof out on top dollar glass :D
 
woohoo !! got a 7000i dynax today. love it ! i'm selling my 404si for pennies (6quid deliv) if someone is interested :)
