Hello, i recently fitted a cctv dvr and have been remotely viewing using my mobile. The thing is my wan ip keeps changing. I've been checking every few days and changing settings on phone accordingly- im bored now though lol.

After researching i originally thought i needed affixed ip-altered settings in explorer and found this wasn't the case grrr ! So now i think I've narrowed it down to needing a dyn account. I've downloaded a dyn updater programme for pc and just registered an account- but they want an annual fee ! Is this to be expected or is there other ways around it down? Its only 20 dollars a year, but still......if i were to buy this would i also be able to access my home computer from somewhere else.

This is all way over my head. The past few weeks I've been waking up thinking about servers, ip addresses and alot of full stops

Thanks

Are you using dyndns?
If so I would stick with it, it's well established and at $29.99 pa is good value.

That was the website gramps  I literally only need it for viewing my cameras though. I dont understand all the gobbledegook that the different accounts offer. What other purposes are there for having a dyns account-or is it literally for just viewing cameras

Personally I would only use it for CCTV monitoring, for remote connection to a PC there are better options ... Teamviewer and the likes.

Thanks for the link Danny  Ive just signed up. Im now trying to translate all the strange words and phrases

Neil i thought about posting in the computer section but thought i might have got abused for it not being photography related ;)

Looks like ive 4 options that might be what i need- reckon its nothing to do with domain's so guess i need to add host :geek: :runaway:Thanks

Both my Samsung CCTV dvr and bt home hub have a place to enter the dyndns account settings - so that I don't need to leave the pc on.

Works perfectly and it gets updated within a few mins of my ip changing

well, i spent a good while chatting to swann tech help. Think its sorted now.

So to clarify (this is what i think is happening in my head) :cuckoo:

my computer/ modem is connected to dvr -simples

my modem keeps changing ip so the no-ip website makes a note of...............

It seems to be working now on my phone- time will tell i suppose. I replaced the 192.12etc number with user@zapto.org and everything working as it should.

Is there a book on networks or a little more advanced computers you could recommend. Reckon im not using it to half its potential yet- make good lunch time reading
