Hi all,

Just sat down to try and extract photos from my CF card on my 40D and I can't seem to move them from the CF Card to my computer. The card is recognised when in the CF reader (or plugged into the computer via USB to camera) and some photos are displayed. But when you click to view, nothing happens and nothing can be deleted or moved to the HD. When viewing the photos on the camera, the movement between photos is very, very sluggish and some won't currently show either.

Is the CF Card dead?

possibly. could be the card reader. try using image recovery software to retrieve the images. then format the card through the computer. pop it back in the camera and take some tet images, 10-15 maybe, try to download them through the card reader. if it still happens, I would say the card, but try a different reader as if one of the contacts is faulty then that will be causing the problem. hope this helps

Probably - cards are comparatively cheap so I'd say bin it and replace anyway, its not worth taking the risk of loosing irreplaceable shots

Can you view the images in the camera ???
IF so:
1. Can you copy from the camera to the laptop / pc (with card inserted in camera)
If not:
2. run a recover on the card & follow those instructions.
3. format card in camera & take a few pics & repeat.

If the images will NOT view in the camera then go to 2, if that fails go to 3.
