Dye Sublimation Printers

The CP D70 is not available just yet, we are hoping to see it in the next few weeks.

Kully, with regard to your comments about machines being replaced- it is not as fast a moving market as consumer products - ie domestic inkjet printers, etc. A dye sub can be on the market for years ( the 9550 has been on the market for at 5 years now). Mitsubishi are not replacing the previous machines ( 9550 & 9810) , they will carry on.

Looking at other manufacturers- Fuji's ASK2500 has only come on the market this year, Sony's UPDR200 about 2-3 years, but no signs of a replacement yet, Kodak's 605 has been there for about the same time and no news of a replacement, HiTi have just replaced the 710 with the 720, and the DNP DS40 has been around for about 2 years, again no news of any replacement.

if you were me and was buying a printer with a budget of around £1300 what would you consider to be the best investment ?

(consider the fact that im looking at the wedding reception / event photography set up)

Mark cant tell you that, his job wont allow - what he can tell you is what machines they have available. Truth is that all the latest current crop of machines produce good images.

How to shorten your list :- Look for the popular models so that you can get help and support from other event photographers i.e could you identify a neighbour from whom you could borrow media?

The 2 most popular printer models then will be the Mitsubishi CP9810 and the DNP DS40 so how do they stack up?

Speed - very similar
Image Quality - very similar
Weight - Mitsubishi much heavier
Printing Costs - DNP cheaper
Price - similar
but best to come up with your own list

I currently use the DNP and they do everything I ask of them and if there were no DNP I am sure that I could get good service out of the Mitsubishi - just seen Pauls posting and I know that he succesfully uses the Mitsubishi.

I'm very happy with my DS40 from DNP - quick and efficient, and not so heavy to move around...
 
Sorry - I should also add that my dealings with Mark A above have always been constructive. Although there are several places you can source your equipment from - Mark happens to work with one such supplier, and so far, I've found the service there to be very good. Not sure where you are Kully - but it might be worth a trip before spending a £1000 or more to go and see some of these printers in action. I'm sure Mark could help with that if you wanted..

What sort of weddings? not to sure what you mean but my intentions are too offer the guest something... will be setting up a portable studio
