Dye Sub Printers

I did see that Neil but I can't see myself using the wireless function or the built in screen.

As such they have introduced a new model that has neither of those so it didn't seem to work for me.

But thanks anyway

Rob, which printer was that? The one without the screen and card readers?

Yep.

Um, Rob, sorry , what I meant was - which printer was it, the one you referred to?. :)

Thanks

oh yes the p510l.

No screen, no card reader. At that point the machine is rendered to the level of any other 6x9 dye sub. The whole benefit of the 510 series was to do with the screens and the card readers, which works fine for some guys, but not all.

Im really battling with myself over not getting Neils machine but looking into a little more, Is there a machine that does the sizes I offer.... 7x5, 10x8 and A4

You also need to be careful offering different sizes at events as you can spend a fair bit of precious time having to edit every image (cropping). This is one of the reasons 9x6 is popular as it's the ratio used straight off most dslr cameras

Trust me you wouldn't,t be disappointed.

not being a smart arse here, but A4 is not a standard photographic size, it is an inkjet printer size, betraying the true origins of inkjet printers for office useage. As mike has said the top sizes for roll fed dye subs are 10x8" and 12x8".
Two categories of dye subs - machines that go from 6x4" to 6x9" and the the other is machines from 10x8" to 12x8".

You would do best to go for Neil's machine and do 6x9" prints. Trying to offer a mixture of sizes at an event will be unrealistic and inefficient - unless you have two or three printers loaded up with different print media packs.

Wrong answer, mstch your sizes to an existing machine, ask Mark about the new CIAT? Machine which will also do a panoramic print. Real advantage of buying the sane brand as me is a 2 year guarantee.

Just to confirm it is the ciatt printer, and yes, it will do a 6x12" print as top size.

Mike, just wondering about sane printers, and what about insane printers?! :)

Sorry guys, I never explained properly. I would be doing little events and "doos" but also using as home printing and them the sizes I offer so thats why I was generically asking is there a printer that does all my needs, Far fetched I know

Asterix, sorry, need to explain it clearer. There is not really a dye sub that does it all from 6x4" to 8x12". The machines are designed to do full bleed in the most efficient way for production, using appropriate media packs specific to each size.
You can do two 6x8"s with a 12x8" media pack on the DNP DS40 and Mitsubishi CP 3800.
So, to go over it again, printers that do 6x4 to 6x9 and printers that do 10x8 to 12x8.
Hope that clarifies better. :)

Not really but you can print upto 12x8 if that is close enough to A4. With this printer (DS80) you can print 10x8 with no problems but will need to tile up 2 7x5 and trim off the surplus.

Am at Butlins in Skegness for my youngest's football tour.

They have a couple of Mitsubishi printers working overtime.

I even had to buy one of my son as he got goal of the tournament for the U14s..

Am so peed off with myself for bring the still camera as I missed the goal. Wished I'd brought the camcorder...

Rob, who's the set up doing the photography?, I would guess it was either DE Photo or Event Photos. must be intriguing watching someone else doing the job.

Mark

It was a company called Rayner Photography.

At the field they had a small gazebo at the back of their car. Inside the gazebo was a table that had the 2 Mitsubishi printers (one was a 9810DW and there was a smaller printer as well) and the chap's Dell laptop. All being powered by a large portable battery unit.

They had photographers going round doing the T&I shots. These were being printed as the photographers came back to the car.

I didn't see anyone taking any action shots.

The presentations were being done in two age group blocks (which was good as the place wasn't choca.

One photographer taking team photos at the presentations. He had a substantial plinth to stand on. He would organise the teams then take two shots and give a thumbs up. All ran very smoothly. I imagine he must have had a runner for his cards.

The compère let everyone know that the photos could be viewed/bought in the main entertainment area afterwards.

They had a fab location outside Burger King & had the main guy (Mr Rayner I presume) showing/printing on request. One lady was (his wife I presume) was the main organiser for the selling of the photos & there were 5 others on hand as well.

Obviously selling the group shots for the day time as well. He was then doing montages of the individual photos with the group photos from the stage.

They were extremely busy al night as they had a massive rush as each presentation ended. That would start to wain as the next one started.

They had 2 small screen for viewing just showing a copy of what he was doing on the laptop. Very interesting to see him crop, adjust and send to the printers. I am sure his brain and right hand) from the mouse needed a good rest today...

The bit where it looked messy was on the tables where they had the group photos in plastic folders. It obviously works to have all these prep-printed but some sort display boards would have been nice. However they obviously have their own restrictions on area placed on them by Butlins.

I asked if I could pay the £10 for the jpeg & have it emailed rather than printed but they said no. I can understand why it could get messy for them. Much easier to choose, print, stuff in the mount, collect cash and hand over.

I'd rather have had the jpeg so that I could try and recover the burnt high-lights of my son's polo shirt and his forehead. A challenging photo as Jason McAteer was in a black suit with a white shirt & a dark tan. Then my son had a brand new bright white polo shirt and no tan. All against a very dark back ground. Photographer also chopped of half of his left arm (no literally of course).

I was a skegness to also doing the event with rayner photography it was a real eye opener! and a real money maker!

This was the largest event I have attended and I was one of the photographers doing the team and individual shots, the work flow was very sleek and the job got done very efficiantly . Yes we had a runner with the CF card from the presentation to the selling area, but as you can see we were selling from 2pm till 2am constantly and also half of the next day too!

I know it looked messy with the folders but if they were stuck up on a board with the amount of people pushing eachother out of the *** trying to look in folders they would have soon been ripped down and probably caused a riot..

Yes I suspect you're probably right Richard with the space you had.

Were there any action shots taken or was it all T&I?

Richard try this

1) http://www.theimagefile.com/web/raynerphoto

2) Click on Photo Gallery at the top then Easter & Spring Festivals, then Skegness Mid May.

You should end up here http://www.theimagefile.com/?skin=321840&Action=_VC&id=29029850

The click on Search Images (leaving showall in the box).

Now look 3 lines below the search box - it shows

Easter & Spring Festival of Football > Ayr April 2012 > Action > Action Card 719 (160 files)

Err Ayr that's a few miles north on my map than Skegness :help:
------------

Ok doing it another way. From the home page click on ESFF Skegness Mayday 2012

The Presentation & the T&I photos are correct but NOT the action ones. Look at the 3rd photo from the left on the top row. Did you see any caravans where they were playing?

n.b. not criticising just pointing it out so it can be corrected.

Thanks for that feedback I will let them know, we are back there again next weekend for another football tournament!

Yes I heard that they had an U17s tournament or was it U15s-U17s?

If it's U15s we may be back next year.
