im using the free dxo optics pro 11 plus the dxo photos app and I like them both but im easily pleased .Anyone using it?
I did try a trial download for a few days but couldn't get the preview window to show (top left) so abandoned further attempts.
im using the free dxo optics pro 11
Yes i cant find too much wrong with it,though For Elliot its not a fav
Elliot, can you talk a bit more bout the raw processing, wat is it you don't like in particular,I've used LR and dxo and I can't find a fault with the dxo, what should I check for ,I want to find problems if they are there as I'm not bothered wat I use reallyThe tools are there and some of the tools are nice to use. I do like the lens sharpness tool and the prime noise reduction is fantastic. I just don’t like the raw processing as I never seem to be able to get a satisfactory result. The non ability to do local adjustments also put me right off.
Photo lab does now have local adjustments using nik technologhy, but I’m still not a fan of the processing compared to LR or Capture One.
I think like most software out there, it has its plus points and it’s bad points. Capture one is a great raw processor, but no DAM and can be a bit slow, LR has a good DAM but can be a bit slow and less features than CO. etc etc.
I think the highlights and shadows in LR is one of their best featuresI’ve been a LR user for years and I just find it quicker to use overall. I’m sure I could get similar results with DXO but it would take longer.
I’m particular I find shadows and highlights recover far better in LR and some of the other tools just seem a bit clunky.
Maybe I’ve just not given it enough time and if you are happy with the results, why look for faults.
I often use it as a first time raw processor and upgraded to Photolab, I like the sharpener and noise reduction and the local adjustments in Photolab are pretty good once you crack how to use them although their application is still a bit primitive. I agree with Elliott that the shadows and highlights are fairly crude compared to LR and ACR.
I dont think the free optics pro11 has primes noise reduction does it?
so if you have a Mac the £10 app which has the prime NR is worth it I would say thenOnly the standard NR, which is like LRs.
Yes and the lens correction also makes it a very good addon for photos, that was one thing that i thought apple should have incIf it only costs £10 & you need that kind of noise reduction then yes. IIRC you were using Apple Photos/iPhoto for processing, so even if it didn't have the noise reduction it would be a big improvement.
