Hi all
What I am wanting to know is........
If moneys tight would you go for
1. D3 with a 70-200 sigma 2.8 with a 1.4 teleconvertor
2. D7000 with a 70-200 sigma 2.8 and either a 300 sigma 2.8 prime or a 120-300 sigma 2.8
Decisions decisions

Just wondering what effect the teleconvetor would have on the bokeh seeing that I'll not be able to shoot wide open.

All depends on focal length you shoot, distance from camera to subject and distance of subject to background but as a rough guide shooting a full frame with a 70-200mm + 1.4x at f/4 will give you very, very similar results to shooting with a crop camera and 70-200mm lens at f/2.8
 
A 2nd hand D800 is about the same cost as a 2nd hand D3 (Mifsuds prices) and that would allow significant cropping to gain extra apparent reach when needed.
 
I'd most definitely go with the D3 in that case.

The D7000 is a fantastic all rounder but for dedicated sports it would suck with its non - existent buffer (not bad if you don't mind not shooting RAW fot sports).

D700 then? Not quite so much scope for cropping but higher frame rate. Would probably save the OP enough to up his lens selection until such time as he earns enough to upgrade.

Yup, i used one as a second body with a 70-200mm professionally for several years, i did use the D800 once with decent results but nowhere near as good for sports as a D700/D3/D3S or even a D300 in good light

Yeah I only shoot jpegs with my D7000 but find the shutter button not vey responsive and using the the back focus button on the back a bit of a pain as I wear glassesand my fingers lays in the way that's why I though a used D3 would be a good step up along with other benefits.

But if I buy a D3 I can't really afford another lens at present.

Well I've took the plunge and got myself a D3.

I will gave to wait a wile though for a new lens.

Thought about the new sigma 120-300 as this will give me round about the same focal lengths as my D7000 with the 70-200 sigma.
