DX format info needed

Hi folks. I have a D80 and am interested in getting the Nikon70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G AF-S VR lens but I see its not classed as a DX lens. I was wondering if its still possible to use it on the D80? I find the various types of sensors and lenses a bit confusing and don't want to buy something I can't use. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks

Not a D80 expert by any means - I'm sure someone will put you straight if I've got it wrong!

That lens will be perfect on your D80. Any DX or FX lens will work with a DX sensor. Its the other way round when you start to get problems! (This can be used on DX and FX bodies)

I used a the 70-300 VR on my D80 - it's a really good combo for the money

Thanks guys. I must have been thinking of it the other way round as Allan said. Would I be right in thinking if it works with an FX sensor, then it will give a slightly bigger image on the DX sensor?

Don't think I will ever get my head around this digital stuff but its fun learning

It would give you 420mm on a DX Sensor.
