So my son turns 17 i get him a driving licence..i had to ring them as it has taken weeks to get here. now with all the documentaion you have to send how the **** do they cock his name up on the licence.. so now i have to send it back again god knows how long it is gonna take to get it back.. now have to cancel the lessons i booked for him too. so thanks very much which ever muppet did it.

Contact the Driving Instructor and show them the license before you send it back. You can still drive while the DVLA 'have' the license for amendments.

thank you marcel i didn't know that thank you so much

I can probably do a better DVLA rant than you!

Try changing the engine capacity recorded on the V5C. They wrote back to me with a form letter that could be summarised down to "we don't believe you, if you want it changed you'll need to prove it"

So my V5C is wrong as I'm not going to spend money proving to them that the engine capacity is what I say it is. It's a second hand engine out of an old racing car that I bought from a bloke in the owners club years ago. I don't have an invoice from the manufacturer, an engine reconditioner or any other person. I can't contact the manufacturer, Singer cars no longer exists.

The insurance is for the correct capacity and the DVLA have been informed, even if they choose to disregard the information, so that's as far as I'm prepared to go.

Government should be enabling, not disabling. Whether in the form of parliament itself or the agencies of the state that the populace have to deal with. They are public servants, the public are not their servants and this country needs a paradigm shift to put things back that way.

When I applied for my previsional a few years ago, they messed up the date of birth THREE times!!

1st time it was sent back - came back, no change
2nd time it was sent back - came back, changed but wrong
3rd time it was sent back - came back, changed but wrong
4th time it was sent back - came back, changed but finally correct.

Is it really that difficult to read printed capital letters off a form?:bang:

Not sure I have ever looked at my drivers license to make sure the info is correct! :|

I've dealt with them in a business capacity several times in the past, it wasn't a pleasant or smooth experience!

Then there was the case of my next door neighbour who had his motorbike entitlement removed when he sent his license in for a change of address, and they refused to put it back on. He had to re-take his test.

They have sent my license application back twice for something that could have been fixed once :P

Beaurocrats and paperwork, you want to try working in the NHS:bonk:

I've just this minute found out that I've been drivin around without an MOT certificate for the past 10 months. Having bought the car when it was six months old I've never had to bother remembering to get it renewed. You'd have thunk that the DVLA would send out reminders prior to the car needing to be certified, but oh no, that would be too easy wouldn't it?

Why? It is nothing to do with them

Erm, no. Until a few years ago the DVLA had no idea when your MOT ran out, no-one did apart from the owner as the certificates were hand written by the issuing garage.

It is all computerised now, but that's VOSA rather than the DVLA.

A car requires its first MOT on its third birthday. This will usually co-incide with its fourth tax disk.

The DVLA are under no obligation to tell you that your road tax is about to expire either, although they do most of the time.

Terri, with all due respects, should he not be filling in the forms himself at 17? If he wants to drive he should be taking responsibility for paperwork. OK, he'll still be expecting you or his dad to be writing the cheques but applications for licenses etc should be up to him!

It works if you can proove it.

Sorry Nod he did i just checked it over. and yep we are wrting the cheques.. it's just annoying that is all. you send in all the information and they still get it wrong.

I wonder how many people are driving with expired licences, the photo card licence is over 10 years old now so those that applied when it was first issued need to stump up for a new one but I wonder how many have

Ha Ha, just wait till you try and get him insurance!

And, it's more expensive after he passes his test.

I've just had my tacho card sent to me for the second time from the DVLA, still doesn't work...

My son filled his online at the beginning of last week, sent the required ID on Wednesday last week and got his provisional through today.

And I have now just made him check it for errors, thankfully it is OK.

I seem to recall that was featured on BBC's Watchdog last year? There were loads of people affected. And the government expects us to trust them with ID cards and the like...
