I wanted to buy a DVI cable to connect my LCD monitor to my new PC and was wondering if anyone may have a suggestion or two of what to buy and maybe where?

Hi m8

Don't know if this is the cable your after

clicky clicky

I've used this company many times, top class and speedy service

Thanks m8 for the linky and the cable quality seems to be outstanding but found the price very steep but a big thank you for pointing me to the website.

Not looked at cables for ages but there is a lot of blind faith placed in expensive cables for hifi connects etc. (not by me though). Personally for a digital cable I'd buy a cheap one as a 2metre long cable is not going to lose the signals. Dabs do one for £6 and no doubt most other computer retailers will do similar.

One day someone will pick an expensive cable in a blind audio test but I doubt it (unless someone can tell me different now?)

You might find a good deal on Ebay. Places like Ebuyer, Scan or Aria will do them cheap but you get stung for delivery.

Hi m8

the one in the link was a 10m cable, so 60 odd quid is a bit overkill, if you follow the links off the page the smaller dvi cables are much cheaper :D

sub 20 quid for a small cable :D

I used some of their cables when my plasma was installed......surfing the net on a 42" screen is awesome:D

Many thanks m8, found out what I was looking for. 20 quids for 2 meters is a great price considering what's in the package.

Got the cable connected to the PC & monitor but monitor displayed 'Check signal blah blah'

I thought it would be a straight forward connection!!

You'll probably have to change the input type on the monitor mate - there should be a selctor somewhere?

I can honestly see no difference with DVI or my normal monitor input cable. Don't waste your money. I only use DVI because I got the cable with my new monitor.

With a cheap analogue cable you might get ghosting so digital has an advantage there but the other reason is the digital scaling options so 1024x768 on a 1680x1050 can be displayed on a pixel per pixel basis - no scaling or stretching.

This is what's happening. Any advice will save me lotsa time.

Hardware:

Samsung SyncMaster 940MW
PC having nVidia GeForce 7300LE
DVI Monitor Cable [DVI-D Male - DVI-D Male dual-link]

When I connect my monitor to the PC via this DVI cable I do not get any signal but when I connect with the supplied monitor cable, I can view stuff on the monitor.

I was wondering what's going on.

Tried calling Samsung but 2 different I.T Engineers gave 2 different opinions.

Any help is highly appreciated.

do you have an input select button on the front of the screen?

My sammy syncmaster does, A is for normal analogue Dsub input and B is for the DVi

if the switch is pressed to A the screen goes blank and then the no signal box flashes up.

When using the DVI do you see the boot screen for your PC but lose the picture when windows starts? If so check that you're not running dual monitors in the Nvidia driver or windows.

Also try connecting both cables and switching between inputs see if you get a picture on the DVI then.

Next step I think is to test the cable on another system, if it works then check your system on another monitor...
