I was wondering what the best method is for creating a DVD slideshow that can be played on normal DVD players.

Hi

Are you using mac or windows? Do you have a budget in mind?

In windows you can use movie maker which is free, paid one that is good look at pro show gold or Proshow producer.

For mac you can try fotomagico or imovie11 both are paid software.

I'm using Windows, don't really have a budget but does it need to be able to setup a menu etc or will it just start playing when you put it in the dvd player? I have light room which outputs a video file, is there some way to add the TV dvd bits to it?

Have a look at cdburnerxp to create and burn the DVD with menu. Hopefully you can create a slide show with LR export it and use cdburnerxp to create the final dvd.

This may be a better

Proshow ones are good but expensive.

My favourite application for slideshows is Smartshow

But sometime ago, i've found that they made completely new software for making professional top-quality slideshows,
Take a look on it's features in this Christmas video :)

I figured this lot out in the end, I needed dvd authoring software to add the video to a menu. I tried about three but the quality of all of them is terrible. I know normal dvd is less hight quality but but this was really not good In comparison to movie dvds. I even exported the video in 1080p so it had plenty of resolution to play with.
