The organisation I work for produces DVDs each containing footage of a number of tests. Each DVD begins and ends with a log/info section, with various clips of the tests in between.

In the past, if we have had to send these test films away we have sent a copy of the whole DVD (we have a standalone DVD copier to do this). We are now being asked for copy DVDs showing just a specific test from all those on the DVD. The resulting DVD should have the start and end sections together with the specific test in between.

What suggestions do you have for software to do this please? This will be on a Windows 7 machine and it needs to be fairly easy to use as some of the users are not particularly computer literate.

Hi Brian,
Windows has its own DVD editing program built in. Windows movie maker. I myself need a little more than this so I use EDIUS, It is one of the affordable professional editing suites, will edit anything,DVD's, video, audio, stills and any other image or file you care to input.

Thanks Ron, will take a look at it :)

Question though - do you need to take an already authored DVD, break it down and put it back together again, or do you have access to the raw footage?
They are DVDs that are recorded directly in camera - so I need to take out sections and put them on a new DVD.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Not that easy I'm afraid, the camera is owned by the business (not mine) and has proprietary software with it which doesn't include getting anything off the camera. The camera records directly onto DVD so there is nothing on the camera to take off.

The DVDs are our copyright so there is no issue with editing them, but I guess I would need to have some method of taking the files off the DVDs before they can be edited. Can this be done in Windows Movie Maker?

DVDshrink should do what you want, Google it.

Edit: It's free!
