Hi all,

After recieving my new studio gear I thought that I would have a go at some still life for the first time (for pleasure).

so far I am happy with the results but there is one style of still life that I have always found interesting, Dutch Still Life. I cannot explain it but there is something about the lighting and tonality that appeals to me.

there are a few examples of the style that I mean HERE.

How would I go about replicating these tones etc.. in photoshop?
What is the best way of trying to replicate this style?

Thanks in advance

Mark

It looks like a largish light from the left (possible a window?) and a bit above.

It's not so much about Photoshop it's the original lighting technique that give the effect. Known as Dutch Masters, you can see this type of lighting used by many artists , mainly Dutch in the mid 17h century.

Have a look at work by artists such as Vermeer.

It's usually achieved by a large "Window" like light source, and a small amount of fill
