Why are they so inconsiderate?
Why do they always decide to park their van across my drive when they see me coming out of my house and get in to my car/motorbike, obviously about to go somewhere and block me in?
None of my neighbours either side within 50m has a drive, so they could park either side of me within 2 m of where they do park and not block me in and not have to walk too much further to collect the bins, but no, they always decide to block me in instead.
Inconsiderate of them?
 
So how long are they parked there?

In the big scheme of things does it really matter?

No not in the slightest, just flippin annoying that they block me when they can see I'm going out.
Slight caveat to that, when fully kitted in bike gear and it's hot it doesnt take long to get over hot and decidely sweaty if stationery on a motorbike and it's rather obvious that I am going to be needing to get off my drive so why not just pull up a few feet further along, after all they collect bins from in from of the vehicle as well as behind (and from over the road) so overall no further walking required on their part.

I know, I know it's a real 1st world problem, just needed a rant! :-)
 
personally I think its you thats being inconsiderate ,(1) have you ever had to empty bins and associated crap for a living and in all weathers (2) have you ever driven and or tried to park something the size and complexity of a bin wagon , these days they need all round access due to re-cycling requirements , a thankless job that very very few people would even consider . so come down off your high horse . a few minutes either way will make no difference to you .

and thinking about it bin men come on a set day and usually around the same time so why not get up early and move your motorbike and/or car off the drive in readiness ,and as you walk by the bin men give them a smile and a cheery good morning lads :banana::banana::banana:

As I live on a main road, double yellows everywhere and side roads that have residents parking only (I cant get a permit because i have a drive) it is impossible for me to put my vehicle elsewhere.
No high horse here, I value what they do, but it would be a tad more considerate of THEM if they didnt block my drive.
As for parking something the size/complexity of a bin lorry, it's a straight road my Granny could park the flippin thing, blindfolded.

I normally do give them a cheery smile and wave, especially 6 weeks ago when I dropped the bike and they helped me pick it up :-)
 
Ah, that explains it, they probably park there so they don't have to walk as far to help you pick your bike up next time you drop it!

Let me get this right, they helped you pick your bike up when you dropped it, but because they stop outside your house for a couple of minutes to tip the bins in their lorry they're inconsiderate? :confused:

Sounds like you've got a rather helpful and decent refuse crew there, so I'd take their parking position on the chin as it doesn't sound like they're doing it on purpose. On a straight road you'll probably find the stopping position is determined by how many wheelie bins they can reasonably trundle to it from each direction, as they tend to empty them in small batches.

I live in a small cul de sac. We have a food waste bin that goes out every week. However the refuse guys always throw them on the drive out of the cul de sac which means either walking down to move them or getting out of the car to move them. So we asked them if they would put them back where they got them from.

The next week the four bins were spaced evenly across the road, and the next week and the week after that.

So we all stopped recycling food. Solved.

Probably, it's Monday and it's the 13th and I was supposed to have the day off but I've had to come in to work and my holiday day is postponed till Thursday when I will be (hopefully) collecting my Dad from hospital, who will spend all day moaning at me like anything, but we'll be glad to be getting home.

Soo they helped pick your bike up a few weeks ago and you have emailed their boss complaining, Hope you don`t need help again

I'd LOVE to see a group of dustmen try to lift the Rocket III!
 
At home we have the most ignorant binmen I have ever met, they park in the middle of roads, blocking them for all traffic
and not moving far, so you can have a street blocked for ages whilst they empty all the bins along it

Out where I deliver, a totally different matter, narrow roads, only just wide enough for 2 cars to pass, easily, and yet these guys keep
as close to the side as possible so people can pass them, if I am parking up to deliver I will park in a driveway to help them, great, friendly bunch

Two different district councils employ the crews
 
I have a similar issue. Once a week.
Not the end of the world.
 
We just leave a bit earlier for work - usually twenty minutes does it. They have never shown up before 0715.

I do hope that they are not reading this, because I don't really trust them not to turn up earlier:)
