dust

Hi I am traveling to africa. and I will be using a 100-400 lens on a 50d for my photography. I am worried about dust in the lens.
Is there a lens cover available that I can purchase.????????
any ideas.

Hmm, not too sure on one that'll protect it during the extending/retracting movements...but then again, I've never looked into buying lens coats!

When I had my 100-400 though, I made one from an old jacket sleeve. The cuff was elasticated so hugged the lens hood, and the sleeve was obviously long enough to cover the lens whilst extended. A hole in it for the tripod mount and it was done! You could then either elastic band the lens mount end, to stop dust getting in, or just keep it loose and have it over the camera body too
