Ive got a nikon 105mm and 24-70mm lens, both 3 months old and i noticed last night that on both lenses, they both have 1 small white spec of dust in them. Both in exactly the same place (body end of the lens).
Should i be worried as these are brand new or is this common?
All my equipment i try my hardest to look after with the upmost care and attention and dont understand how dust could have got in, especially as they havent been used much, probably 2000 shots each lens.

Anyone else come across this or is this just part n parcel of lenses?

Sad to say, that's part of the lens experience - frequently specks of dust can appear on the inside of the lens, but it rarely, if ever, makes a difference to the shots taken with the lens.

Zoom lenses in particular will take in dust unless sealed and only the expensive ones seem to be sealed.

Dust in a lens is nothing to worry about, especially if it's just the odd speck, and close to the front element. Time to break out this link again:

:D

Muck on the rear element is I think more likely to have a visible effect, but as the link shows above there can be a real mess in between the sensor and the subject, and still minimal impact occurs.

Don't worry about it :)

My 24-85 AF-S is a renowned dust-sucker, every time I look it seems to have a different arrangement of dust on the front elements but it has no effect on images at all.

Thanks guys for replying. Worrying over then! But the 24-70mm isnt a cheap lens, so im wondering if the dust spec has been in there from day 1!

Indeed it's not ;) but weather sealing isn't necessarily the case with all expensive lenses either.

It may have been in it from new, but that's unlikely I think.

As you know, it doesn't actually make any difference.

dust is not an issue to image quality. how coincident are they in the same position. are you sure it's not the reflection of certain area or screws? it particularly happens to the lenses from the same make.

Cant belive that the lens in the link still took photos...
